2009/10/19

Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia (Mathaba)

An international popular conference and exhibition "Expose War Crimes - Criminalise War: Failure of International Law" is to take place in Kuala Lumpur, the capital city of Malaysia. The conference will be held from 28 to 29 October after opening on the evening of 27th and is to be followed by a War Crimes Tribunal on 30th and 31st October, with 2 days for guests and delegates to further meet meet before departure around November 2. It is open to all citizens of the world.

Organised by the Perdana Global Peace Organization and the Kuala Lumpur Foundation to Criminalise War, the conference is to feature a keynote opening speech by Elder Statesman Dr. Mahathir Mohamad, and will include addresses and testimony by lawyers, peace activists, and victims of war.

One of the delegates to address the conference is George Galloway, a Member of British Parliament. Galloway has been active against the Iraq War and has voiced out against Zionism, while leading a British political left-wing socialist "RESPECT" party. He is to address the Conference in its first session around 11am local time (UTC+8) on Wednesday October 28th, in the Merdeka Hall, Level 4, of the PWTC in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, on the subject of "Flouting International Law".

Asia's longest serving leader and former Prime Minster of Malaysia, Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, 84, is the main driving force behind the efforts to criminalise war, with this conference following on from a first one held 2 years earlier. Currently it is a crime in all countries to commit murder, provided the number of victims is somewhat less than one hundred. When thousands are killed, especially abroad, there is no punishment and instead medals are awarded. Many believe that the launching of war, resulting in massive numbers of deaths of innocents, should be an international crime.

Mathaba News Agency will be giving special live coverage reports throughout the event, which readers can follow via Mathaba.Net, RSS, Email, Twitter, Facebook, Mobile or via additional tools. -- Mathaba

Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia (Mathaba) An international popular conference and exhibition 'Expose War Crimes - Criminalise War: Failure of International Law" is to take place in Kuala Lumpur, the capital city of Malaysia, starting tomorrow 28th October.

Under the slogan `Unite for a Louder Voice` those who would like to see the waging of war listed as a crime under international laws are being urged attend this conference, or follow its development on-line. The conference is to be followed by a War Crimes Tribunal on 30th and 31st October. A further 2 days for guests and delegates to follow up before departure around November 2 is planned.

It is to feature a keynote opening speech by Elder Statesman and former Prime Minister of Malaysia, Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohamad, 84, and will include addresses and testimony by lawyers, peace activists, and victims of war. The conference is jointly being organised by the Perdana Global Peace Organization under the management of Mukhriz Mahathir, the son of Dr Mahathir who is also Malaysia's Deputy Minister of International Trade and Industry, and the Kuala Lumpur Foundation to Criminalise War.

On October 22nd a press conference to drum up publicity for the event was held in Kuala Lumpur, to which Mathaba News Agency was not invited. The sole visible result of the press conference from online news searches outside our own coverage, is a single item in the "Malay Mail" a virtually unknown publication, and a first article in the Malaysian New Straits Times publication today. Internationally there has been no media coverage in the lead up to the conference at all, with Mathaba being the lone voice once again, in reporting what should have been billed as an important conference for the future of humanity.

Speakers at the conference are to include Malaysian media barons and leaders such as Malaysia's Information, Communications and Culture Minister, YB Dato' Seri Utama Rais Yatim, Datuk A. Kadir Jasin (Editor-in-chief Berita Publishing) and Dato' Ahmad Talib (Executive Director, News for Media Prima Berhad and the New Straits Times Press (M) Bhd (NSTP), which makes it all the more suprising that there is no effective media coverage for such an important conference.

Observers fear that the conference may be attracting only the usual lone voices who receive no corporate media support and also have no effective mechanisms to deal with independent and alternative media networks, resulting thus in no coverage for the audiences that would be most interested in attending and following the conference.

Speakers include former United Nations assistant secretaries-general Hans Von Sponeck and Dennis Halliday, controversial British MP George Galloway, who in spite of a large following on his Twitter and Facebook accounts has done little since Valentines Day when he wished his admirers a "Happy Valentine".

Another delegate speaker, former U.S. Congresswoman and presidential candidate Cynthia McKinney has also not made any mention whatsoever of the conference on any of her online publications, nor those of her DIGNITY Action group which include Twitter, FaceBook and MySpace. Michel Chussodovsky, who does run a popular and useful web site with relevant information to the disastrous effects of globalization and who is also a main delegate at the conference. Chussodovsky however has also not seen fit to give mention of the conference on his popular GlobalResearch.ca web site, leading observers to wonder if this conference is at all serious, or has been held merely out of the requirement to fulfill a promise made at the first conference 2 years earlier, to follow up.

Had it not been for a direct call made by Dr. Mahathir during a meeting with Mathaba News to attend and cover the conference, we would also not have known about it, although Mathaba keeps a watch on "news that matters". Subsequent attempts to contact the responsible persons for media and the organising managers and secretaries of the conference, have however met with deafening silence, short of direct calls to their mobile phones. Our media personnel had already voiced concern since 2 weeks that there was likely to be little or no media coverage of the event nor coverage on the networks of the delegates themsevles unless the publicity would be better organised and some pro-active work carried out in that direction.

Mathaba News Agency will still be giving special live coverage reports throughout the event, which readers can follow via Mathaba.Net, RSS, Email, Twitter, Facebook, Mobile or via additional tools. Paying subscribers will be able to receive further behind-the-scenes reports.

British Citizen in Malaysia Asks For Malaysia to be Serious
2009/10/28
Mathaba

Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia) A British citizen who has spent half of his retired life in Malaysia, addressed the conference taking place here to criminalise war, asking why Tony Blair had been allowed to visit Malaysia and address a university here with full fan fare and pomp, on the subject of law.

He asked that Malaysia should present an example by banishing him forever, rather than hosting him and giving him full respect, publicity and services as a guest of honour. He voiced the feeling of many that Malaysia should present itself as an example, by leading in action rather than just occasional words and conferences.

George Galloway provided a response by saying that if this conference is successful, war mongers such as Tony Blair would be ostracised. In related news, speakers and attendees including George Galloway clarified the difference between the criminal Jewish mafia "zionists" that control the world politics and economy and media, and the good Jewish people like Albert Einstein who said that he would not become a citizen of Israel as it was a state built on the homeland of others (Palestinans). Einstein is credited with discovering the science which lead to the building of the atom bomb.

In other questions and answers, Cynthia McKinney put the record straight on Rwanda as to the conflict there and the CIA involvement in it, as it is often presented wrongly as an internal conflict between two tribes, and which line was encouraged by the BBC which is the propaganda vehicle of the British Foreign Office.

A Malaysian citizen stood up and volunteered to be on the convoy with George Galloway to carry the Malaysian flag. Galloway is to be part of around 500 vehicles in an expected 5 mile long convoy to leave Europe to attempt to break the blockade of Gaza and deliver humanitarian aid, in a few weeks time. A Malaysian young lady asked the panel what "international law" is and another male student asked what constitutes a "war crime" and whether Palestinian resistance could be called such.

The chairman of the panel addressed the issue of international law saying that it is a difficult question, and that access by ordinary people to thet International Court of Justice should be made easier. George Galloway, British MP, answered the question on war crimes, by saying that resistance is legitimate.

Galloway then shouted that the videos are recording, and that the war mongers are not jews, giving several examples of war criminals (some of which are in fact Jewish), stating that Jack Straw and Gordon Brown, are not jewish, nor George Bush and Tony Blair. He caught the audience with surprise, since no one had criticized the Jews, and appeared to be very defensive and fearful of the possibility of being associated with any criticism of Jews.

His outburst caught everyone by surprise, and he was visibly shaken and angry when addressing the subject, which he wished to be forced away from any mention of Jews, instead of explaining the difference between Judaism and Zionism, nor to acknowledge that "Bush and Blair" are front men for special interest groups and not their own masters.

Galloway said that the "idea that Muslims are not worthy of democracy" is racist - even though Muslims are not a race, but a religion. It took Cynthia McKinney who is very knowledgeable on world affairs, to correct Galloway who had misunderstood the way the US elections work. Galloway had supported Obama for presidency.

It seems that this report might be why Mathaba.net weren't invited to the press conference yesterday...

That's not to say it's incorrect, but for crying out loud - be consistent!
