Ender Stacey Slater's sanity
By KEELEY BOLGER
12 May 2009

STACEY Slater has a baffling breakdown in EastEnders this week, ending with a wacky showdown in the beauty salon. The mouthy market girl, played by Lacey Turner, gets into bother at Booty the beauty salon on Thursday's episode and starts throwing cosmetics in a bonkers rage.

Stacey, who is grieving the death of best pal Danielle, runs into Tanya and Chelsea's salon demanding to be made to look "beautiful for once" and then chucks slap around the shop. The breakdown continues the next day when Stacey convinces herself that she and Max Branning are going to get back together and then incurs Charlie's wrath for not paying the electricity bill.

Even mum Jean corners Stacey about her excessive shopping habits after finding the girl lobbing dresses out of her window and suggests she's bi-polar, leaving Stacey to insist that she's 'normal'.

If I see 'Ender' as an abbreviation for 'End of' one more time!

Lacy is a pretty amazing actress. I remember, when she first came on the show, thinking that she was just doing an imitation of Kat, but she really has blossomed into her own. Well done, Lacy!

I completely agree with you Spurs. She really has come unto her own in the Stacey role, well done. The thing is, what I don't understand is that her mom is on pills and has the disease under control, yet she seems like an oddball/skittish/dumblike character. When Stacey was on the pills, she seemed like her old self. I think her mom probably has other issues besides bi-polar.

I think Jean has been sick for so long, she doesn't know how to be herself anymore. She is very strong when taking care of Stacey, but then skitters around the rest of the time like a 5 year old. I think it just may be her...

I'm with the both of you. it's been great and Lacey has come such a long way. It was scary watching her flip out at the grave.

Lacey really is doing a great job with this storyline - I also had my doubts when she first started on EE but she's come a long way.

I love the triple threat of the funeral scene - Stacey losing her grip on reality again, Lucas thinking Stacey knows he did it and Chelsea thinking that Stacey knows that Denise did it. It was a perfect storm, so to speak, in soap opera world.

I must admit - there was almost a tear in my eye. It was very realistic.
