Didn't Hitchens show respect for those religious people who weren't rabid maniacs like Falwell, in the first interview? I was a few sheets to the wind last night, but I got that impression. |

Yea, I thought he came across well in both those interviews. Neocon apologist or not, he is a man of incredible intellect and wit.
I loved when he pointed out that the interviewers were condemning him for his point of view, and saying that his views were dangerous, yet they invited him on the show to express it fully in the knowledge of what his point of view was.

The best bit was at the end of the Hannity one (I think)
"If you gave Falwell an enema, you could bury him in a matchbox" |

Classic Hitchens
I also like
"He woke up every morning pinching his chubby little flanks and saying I got away with it again"
Oh and saying to Ralph Reed "Oh Great, let's hear from the Jack Abramoff faction" |

He has no class... I don't care who Falwell was; there is a time and a place for being clever and Hitchens has no sense of that.
He was asked for his opinion but he didn't have to come across like a spoiled child in giving it. |

In the course of doing somehting else today i came across a group called atheistscumunited who patrol Youtube and attack people for having religious beliefs...
Their battle plan.
Incredible.... I see these people prompted by the polemic of Hitchens and Dawkins as just as disturbed as any religious fundamentalist. Why would you bother to put so much energy into something you don't believe? |

This is what I was afraid of. In effect, they become a religion/group etc, which Hitchens is so against. i.e. a "Militant "anti-religion" religion."
i.e. Hitchens' work encourages the type of behaviour which he is so against. Reminds of "We destroyed the village in order to save it" |

I see you have top be registered to see anything on their site - bunch of pathetic, bullying, fucking cowards.
edit: so I've signed up and realised that it seems to be run by a bunch of 18 year old Marilyn Manson fans. I've started smessing with them a bit, but considering how few members the place has I reckon I'll be gone in a few hours... |

Hehe. I've joined the "members only" Jon Gaunt forum, but they're still in the process of approving me. If I get approved I figure I'll just snoop around and see what bollox they are talking in there... |

I've got 2 chapters left to go in the audiobook. He's certainly an exceptional writer and orator with a very deep knowledge of Judaism, Christianity, Islam and the Middle East, I'll give him that! Maybe he puts his intellect to work in a way I don't fully agree with, but I bet there are very few people in the world of the class required to beat him in a debate. |

The only reason that UKNova (God bless them) haven't banned my avatar, is because they don't get the reference.
