'Apprentice' star appears in court

Apprentice star Syed Ahmed has appeared in court for driving offences. The 31-year-old was caught driving in East London despite being banned from getting behind the wheel, and was soon arrested after refusing to take a breath test. Ahmed admitted three offences before Thames Magistrates and will appear for sentencing on July 5.

Syed was the tenth contestant to be voted off the BBC Two reality series, which was eventually won by Michelle Dewberry.

APPRENTICE winner Michelle Dewberry is pregnant by her reality show rival Syed Ahmed. The blonde is expecting following an on-off relationship with Syed, who she beat to the prize of a job with tycoon Sir Alan Sugar. Michelle, 26, is thought to be up to three months pregnant. Last night a source close to her revealed: ?She is stunned, this was definitely not in her plan for the future. She has worked so hard to get this job.? Syed, 31, is said to have vowed to stand by her ?come what may?.

Michelle, famed for her ice cool temperament during The Apprentice, fell pregnant during a reunion with Bangladesh-born Syed. The pair got together on the BBC2 show in which they were the only single contestants.They had a fling throughout filming last year, before the cameras stopped rolling in November but they had split by the time the show aired this spring. Cocky Syed was left fuming after watching Michelle bad-mouth him on the programme.

However, their stop-start relationship continued ? even after Michelle had a date with EastEnders star Joel Beckett, who plays Jake Moon. She swapped numbers with the hunky actor at The Apprentice finale.

Last month Michelle was taken ill on a business trip to Leeds. The Sun revealed how she was rushed to hospital with stomach pains days after starting work with Sir Alan, 59 ? catchphrase ?You?re fired!? Michelle insisted she had been taken to St James?s Hospital with a painful tooth abscess but was told by docs to take a few days off.

A source said of the pregnancy: ?To say it?s come as a surprise would be an understatement. But Michelle has told family and friends in Hull ? and Syed said he will stand by her, come what may.?

Michelle was spotted outside her South London home yesterday, wearing dark glasses and looking grim-faced in a tight black dress. The entrepreneur landed her ?100,000 job despite leaving school with just two GCSEs. She beat sales manager Ruth Badger to become the Apprentice and head up Sir Alan?s new firm Xenon Green ? which disposes of unwanted computer gear. Her success followed a turbulent upbringing which saw her beaten by her dad and lose older sister Fiona, who fell from an eighth-floor tower block window when she was 19.

Syed, who describes himself as a ?business bad boy?, was recently caught drink-driving for a FOURTH time ? while already banned. He escaped a jail term after admitting he was depressed by his troubles on The Apprentice and the news his mother had got cancer. Syed told the judge: ?The last six months have been traumatic, the last four months tortuous.?

Michelle?s spokesman refused to comment last night. Syed was said to be on a work trip and unavailable for comment.

Syed Ahmed has been arrested on suspicion of being involved in money laundering

Syed Ahmed, who shot to fame in BBC TV's The Apprentice, has been arrested on suspicion of being involved in a money laundering operation. The entrepreneur, who clashed with tycoon Sir Alan Sugar on the show, was questioned by detectives on Friday over a ?400,000 property loan from Portsmouth Football Club director Terry Brady. The investigation centres on a complaint by Mr Brady that he was misled into providing the loan to Ahmed's business partner, Aftab Ahmed - no relation to The Apprentice contestant.

The 31-year-old, arrested in Chingford, East London, was released on police bail until October 20. He has hired a top defence solicitor, Scott Ewing, a specialist in white-collar-crime cases. Mr Ewing told The Mail on Sunday: "Syed has been knocked for six and he is devastated that he now has a stain on his business reputation which is wholly undeserved. In my opinion, this should never have been dealt with as a criminal matter. It is simply a straightforward dispute. I do feel very sorry for Syed."

The development came as Ahmed admitted he was the father of Apprentice winner Michelle Dewberry's unborn child. She became pregnant in May, around the time she was chosen by Sir Alan to work for him.

Detectives began the investigation after a complaint by Mr Brady, Mr Ewing said. Mr Brady, a printing tycoon who is father of Birmingham FC managing director Karren Brady, loaned the money to Aftab Ahmed in circumstances now in dispute. "Terry Brady didn't get paid and the allegation is that Aftab Ahmed deceived him," said Mr Ewing, who also represents Syed's business partner. According to Mr Ewing, Aftab Ahmed paid the ?400,000 loan into a dormant business account connected with IT People, the recruitment consultancy the pair set up. Companies House records reveal that Syed resigned from it in June. Some of the money is said to have been used to pay for a ten per cent deposit on property.

"When Aftab Ahmed went on holiday, he asked Syed if he could transfer the rest of the money to his wife to complete the property deal," Mr Ewing said. "That is the only involvement he has had. I am confident the police interview on Friday will be the end of the matter."

APPRENTICE winner Michelle Dewberry has lost her baby, it emerged last night.

Michelle, 26, was ?devastated? after suffering a miscarriage. She was three months pregnant by Syed Ahmed ? a rival on the BBC2 business reality show.

The ex-checkout girl had been rushed to hospital with stomach pains earlier this week. The grim news was revealed after a series of tests.

A spokesman for the pair said: ?Michelle and Syed are extremely upset and are supporting each other through this difficult period.?

Yesterday Syed, 32, was caring for Michelle at her South London home.

She has suffered a string of heartbreaks.

Ten years ago her older sister Fiona plunged to her death from a council block when just 18.

Michelle has also recalled how her father ?battered her and her sisters black and blue?.

Last night, a source close to Michelle said: ?She is utterly distraught and devastated. She said ?I must be the unluckiest girl in the world?.?

Michelle only started her ?100,000-a-year job with Sir Alan Sugar in June ? the prize for winning TV?s The Apprentice.

The Sun told how the pregnancy came as a shock to her and Syed ? who had been on-off lovers throughout filming.

Last week Syed revealed that they planned to wed.

But he admitted: ?Michelle is having quite a complex pregnancy.?

After beating 15,000 rivals to a dream job with Sir Alan Sugar five months ago, Apprentice winner Michelle Dewberry's dream is over. Michelle is set to part company with Sir Alan's Xenon Green computer disposal firm after agreeing a pay off. It's the latest in a series of blows for Michelle following a miscarriage and a split with her boyfriend, fellow Apprentice contestant, Syed Ahmed.

An insider told the Sunday Mirror: "It just wasn't working out. Sir Alan and Michelle had huge hopes for the partnership. But it just hasn't worked out the way either side hoped. It feels like the whole thing has been cursed. There's been one problem after another and in the end, both decided it was best to call it quits."

Michelle has already set up her own company, Michelle Dewberry Limited and is currently recuperating at home following complications after her miscarriage. Michelle has told friends she is still determined to succeed in business. Meanwhile Ruth Badger, the woman she beat to the top job in the TV reality show, is going from strength to strength. She's well on her way to earning her first million and is to star in a new Sky One series, The Big Idea, a nationwide search for wannabe investors and entrepreneurs.

Michelle grew up on a Hull council estate and started her career working as a checkout girl. She had a traumatic childhood. Her older sister Fiona fell to her death from a tower block, aged 19, after becoming a drug addict.
