I just found out on Saturday that 'Big Al' had died and was sad that I'd missed his funeral. He was a genuine character who made a fair impact on my life when I first started getting into the techno-scene in the early 90s. He was very intelligent and the piece above really does do him credit.

He was the first man in Glasgow to openly come-out as a transvestite. It's tough enough just now for anyone to be that showy in a town like this, but he did this back in 1969 - and that took a lot of courage.

RIP Big Al.
