I enjoyed it up until I fell asleep. I'll have to try and figure out at what part was I last conscious and rewatch it. Loved the scenery. Very beautiful.

Katherine Kelly launches our Giving Tree Appeal
November 24, 2009

Coronation Street’s Katherine Kelly, better known as feisty Becky McDonald, has launched this year's Giving Tree Appeal. The actress was in Reading on Saturday to turn on the Christmas lights at The Broad Street Mall. The annual campaign, which is now in its 14th year, encourages people to buy an extra Christmas present for a child who might otherwise not get one.

She said: “It’s the first I’ve heard of this tree and I think it’s incredible. I think I’m going to suggest it to my home town of Barnsley as it’s so specific for the children and they actually get to request what they want and it’s what Christmas is all about.”

The main Giving Tree will be placed in Broad Street Mall, along with others in businesses around Reading, and will be decorated with tags filled in by youngsters asking for a specific gift. Shoppers can pick a tag off the tree, buy the present and should return it to the shopping centre unwrapped, by December 18.

Steve Fawke, general manager of the Broad Street Mall, said: “I am overwhelmed by the generosity of the people of Reading because the Giving Tree builds year on year. That child’s face on Christmas Day when they look at their present will be worth every penny."

Each year the appeal helps a number of charities in the area including Berkshire Women’s Aid, Southcote IT Experience (SITE), Aspire2, Parents and Children Together, Royal Berkshire Hospital, Reading Association for the Blind and Connexions Berkshire.

That's a pretty cool idea, but what gets me is that half the money is going straight to the retailers - if they organised it properly they could get twice as many prezzies by going to wholesalers.

But this way the retailers and the children get benefit. With the economy the way it has been, folks won't be buying as much for themselves. Helps all around....the kids, purchasers, the retail store and the economy!

If Steve don't want her, she can have a shot on my couch any time!
