Inmates rescue jailer from attack
A Florida jail guard who was put into a potentially fatal stranglehold by a rampaging prisoner was rescued by other inmates who piled in and held down his attacker.
November 5th 2009

Deputy Kenneth Moon was alone behind his desk at a the Hillsborough County remand jail near Tampa when inmate Douglas Burden, 24, attached him with no warning. The 64-year-old was helpless against the younger and stronger man, who put him in what martial arts experts call "a rear naked choke" - threatening to cut off the blood supply to the warden's brain.

Then the inmates - charged with a variety of offences including home invasion and attempted murder - came to the rescue. CCTV footage shows the first to arrive knocking Burden down with a single punch before the others pin him down. One inmate can be seen using Mr Moon's radio to call for assistance.

Colonel Jim Previtera, commander of Hillsborough County's Department of Detention Services, told reporters that the inmates had "saved the deputy's life". "The response of the inmates in this case, I think, speaks volumes as to the fact that we treat these men and women... in our facilities with a lot of respect," he added. He said it also showed that Mr Moon was a popular guard. Burden, who was in custody of various drug charges, is now in solitary confinement.

Pretty mad, but pretty cool that he was popular enough with the other prisoners for them to help him.

Ya know Spurs, I was thinking the same thing. Any kind of national news always seems to be coming from our state, good, bad, or indifferent..lol! That was a good thing. Shootings at gas stations and babies thrown out of windows are bad things. I think I hear more bad than good, or maybe that's just how the local news presents things. Bad news keeps the viewers watching.

Good, bad, indifferent and ....weird, crazy and insane!! All the crazies from around the country move here...not sure why, but they do. Maybe because we have such good weather to do insane things in? Gotta love it though...especially since I won't be moving ever again!
