Over the next few days there is going to be a lot of assorted nonsense going on with the American election. If we can keep all the stuff in one place it will make for an interesting thread, now and in the future.
Here's something I just found to get things going - it's called 'Patriot Brigade Radio' and is pretty much as you'd imagine from the name - right-wing, evangelical, bollocks.

| Never heard of it, though anything evangelical would put me right off. I think most who would listen to religious right wing stuff are most likely to the extreme right. Anyone who is extreme anything is a kook in my book. |

| yeah, probably around the same line as I put Air America. It's hard to avoid people who blather on and make themselves look more crazy by the minute. Some stuff on the air has to be taken with a grain of salt. |

| i saw a report earlier and people are having to wait in line for anything up to eight hours! eight hours?!?! thats like a day off work! i bet theres a lot of people that just can't afford to do that, or even get the that sort of time off work |

| I've not seen the lines here like that. But I have seen it on the news here. At least they are getting out to vote. However, that would have been early voting they are in line for, so those people would have gotten the time to be off work, if needed, to get there. It is also important to remember that the polls are open from 7am-8pm and if you are in line by the deadline, even if you aren't voting yet, you are still eligible to vote because you got there in time. |

that waiting in a queue (not a line, thanks) idea to vote is weird for sure - every primary school here is given over as a polling station and the kids get a day off, so you can't go a mile without finding a place to vote.
I remember thinking, as a 10 year old, that voting seems the best thing in the world... haha |

 It's an American election so we will wait in our lines. You can queue all you want in Britain.
We go to our primary schools as well and churches. Some schools close down, some stay open, but they are all open as polling stations, including junior high and high schools. But people are still waiting in line. |

| ok, you can have your line!, but why do people have to wait 4-5 hours? The longest I've ever waited is 10 minutes - ours are open 6am to 10pm though. |

Like I said before, this was early voting. These people waiting to vote are doing it before the official election day. So these polling places aren't going to be schools, churches, etc., they are going to be other government facilities set up for early voting. This is obviously meaning there is a smaller amount of places for these people to go and vote, so they have to wait longer.
It would be like if there were 20 restaurants in town but 19 of them were closed on Friday night. My guess is the wait won't be as long in most places tomorrow since more polling places will be open.
PS..Definition of queue- a file or line, esp. of people waiting their turn.  |

There is a lot more than voting for president going on. We have senator elections as well as other local items to vote for. Some more than others in certain places. These bills and laws can be lengthy to read and if you haven't been versed in them before you came you will want to read through them before you vote.
I believe on our ballot we have a few people to vote for and numerous propositions to vote on, so most people aren't just ticking a box. Then you have plenty of people who have no clue on how to use the voting machine. They even offered an open house night in some areas here for people to be familiar with it. |
