Keep your personal stereo PERSONAL. Or I'll chop your head off - simple.

I was thinking that too - that must be a good 1000 miles or more of a journey to get pissed off... of course, having a Rambo knife to hand is probably just a bit more of a social no-no.

Jesus. What an insane thing to witness, reading it was bad enough. I can't even imagine. If he already had the knife on hand who knows what he was thinking.

I read the story this morning on both CBC & CTV's websites. Needless to say, I was shocked. I'm not sure how long the bus ride was (probably at least 24 hrs), but the articles I read said the murder took place very near the end of the trip. And the two hadn't even been arguing. The guy with the knife had moved from the front of the bus to sit buy the sleeper near the rear about a half hour earlier. It seems like an act of insane violence for no apparent reason.

I never thought violence could be this horrible in Canada (let alone the prairie provinces, where I grew up) but it goes to show what I know.

I am quite speechless. I am not even sure what to think. I just can't imagine being on that bus. How horrible. I hope that there were not a lot of small children on the bus.

There was one quite young boy according to some reports. But the attack happened during the evening (~9pm?) and most passengers were resting or sleeping.

The victim was (apparently) an 18 or 19-year-old native youth 22-year-old Winnipeg resident named Tim McLean; a kid, really.

Utter madness.

PORTAGE LA PRAIRIE, Manitoba - An animal rights group has tried - and failed - to run a newspaper ad comparing the beheading of a passenger on a Greyhound bus last week to the treatment of animals by the meat industry.

People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, or PETA, said on its website it would run the ad in the Portage la Prairie Daily Graphic.

However, city editor Tara Seel said the newspaper had no intention of running the ad, which uses imagery of "an innocent victim's throat" being cut, in reference to the slaughter of cows, chickens and pigs on factory farms.

"His struggles and cries are ignored ... the man with the knife shows no emotion ... the victim is slaughtered and his head cut off ... his flesh is eaten," reads the ad, which is posted on the website.

"If this ad leaves a bad taste in your mouth, please give a thought to what sensitive animals think and feel when they come to the end of their frightening journey and see, hear and smell the slaughterhouse."

Seel would not specify reasons for why the newspaper was choosing not to run the ad, except to say it wasn't something they wanted to do. She noted the newspaper had been inundated with calls from other media since the posting to the PETA website.

Vince Weiguang Li, 40, of Edmonton, has been charged with second-degree murder in the death of 22-year-old carnival worker Tim McLean, who was stabbed and decapitated aboard a Greyhound bus on July 30.

Li has been ordered by a judge to undergo a psychiatric evaluation.

"Like human victims, animals in slaughterhouses experience terror when they are attacked by a knife-wielding assailant," Lindsay Rajt of PETA said in a news release. "We are challenging everyone who is rightly horrified by this crime to look into their hearts and consider leaving violence off their dinner plates."

Rajt said the ad was intended to be shocking and is meant to spur people to think about the terror and pain experienced by animals who are raised and killed for food.

So it's ok for them to complain about people not being compassionate and in doing so have no compassion for the family of the victim. They've really though that through eh?!

Canadian border guards are under orders to prevent members of a fundamentalist American church from crossing into Canada to protest at the funeral Saturday of a Winnipeg man brutally killed on a Greyhound bus last week.

Westboro Baptist Church, a controversial Kansas-based sect, intends to picket the funeral of 22-year-old Tim McLean to tell Canadians his slaying on July 30 was God's response to Canadian policies enabling abortion, homosexuality and adultery.

"God is punishing Canada for passing laws against WBC — by exposing Canadians as cannibals and highway decapitaters," the church says in a news release on its website, which refers to McLean as "The Headless Canadian."

Public Safety Minister Stockwell Day's office sent an alert to border patrol to "look out" for people with signs and pamphlets consistent with the messages that the church promotes and to keep them out of the country, Winnipeg MP Pat Martin told CBC News on Friday.

"Entering Canada by a U.S. citizen isn't an absolute right, and if you're coming here only to disrupt the social order and to promote what we consider to be bordering on hate crimes or hate language, they shouldn't come into Canada," Martin said.

"We're not going to allow these people to compound the tragedy of the McLean family loss, and Canadians simply won't tolerate these lunatics disrupting what should be a respectful service."

Freedom of speech is not absolute, Martin said.

"Your freedom to swing your arm in the air ends when it touches the end of my nose," he said. "What these people were going to do was hurtful, harmful and disruptive to the peace, order and good government that we guarantee to our citizens, so they have no place in this country."

A counter-protest against the church's picket plans was launched on the social networking site Facebook on Thursday. More than 500 people have since joined the group; postings indicate they plan to form a "human wall" around the family to shield them from the church protest, if it takes place.

The Westboro Baptist Church and its founder, Pastor Fred Phelps, gained infamy by protesting gay-pride rallies and the funerals of people who have died from AIDS-related illnesses.

In recent years, church members have also picketed the funerals of American soldiers killed in Iraq and Afghanistan, claiming the deaths are also God's punishment for the country's tolerance for homosexuality.
