Why was Clair expecting Nigel to show up? Or was that a ploy to get sympathy? I am racking my brains trying to remember any kind of mention of him coming back but can't remember anything. Can someone fill in the holes? |

There was never any mention and I don't think there was supposed to be. Instead it was just supposed to make it look like she had a fella on the go to Bradley and Stacy but then have it turn out to be wrong.
If you noticed last night after all that she threw away her little black book and looked as if she is going to try and turn over a new leaf. Of course, she won't be able to do that now because Bradley found the book and will find out what she was like.
This was just a writing ploy to make it even more tragic when she is found out.
Personally I thought it was just silly. Unless Nigel went through a serious personality transplant, I can't imagine him not being there for Clare, even if he remarried and had his own kid. He was just an all around good guy with a big heart and wouldn't forget like that. |

You're right Sky, they really left that out of the Clare plotline didn't they? How Clare ended up like she is is quite unbelievable knowing how good old Nigel was. |

I am glad to hear that I didn't completely black out during and episode or something. I wasn't able to see it during the Nigel years, but it sounds like he may have been a little too nice and Clair may have been looking for some one to stand up to her. I may be way off because I have never seen Nigel, but someone who would boss her around and not give into her every whim...you know what I mean? |

Spurs, I have the same gap. I really don't remember much of Nigel because there were long periods in the 90s that i couldn't watch EastEnders. It took me a long time to figure out who Nigel was. Either way I'm the same as you, I couldn't figure out who Claire was waiting for because, well, Claire is diabolical and she scares me. Do you remember when Claire first burst into Albert Square? I believe she was tossed out of a car and landed flat on her face on the ground in someone's stall. I wish whoever dropped her off would come back and get her. |

what gets me is the shirt she wrapped up - if it was all a scam then why buy a shirt like the ones Nigel used to wear? It's not as if Bradley would appreciate the detail... |

I'm like you in that I didn't see EE for large chunks of time in the 90's, but I do remember a bit of Nigel back when he first came on the scene --- and he was a nice guy-- can easily see how Clare would try to take advantage of him.
And as for having someone come back and get Clare from the square, antonia--- I'd gladly draw them a map and hire a car |

It wasn't a scam is the thing. It was just bad writing. In an attempt to give this vixen some pathos. |

If we were all thrown by it, imagine how lost new watchers were. It just felt like it was supposed to be a continuation of something, but they forgot to show us the first part. |
