I find it incredible that he thought it wasn't torture before! |

Good for Hitch. I do have a certain respect for him even though many of his beliefs are contrary to my own. |

i'm also surprised he thought it wasn't torture before - but fair play to him for trying it
its crazy because the the americans used to see waterboarding as torture - japanese soldiers who waterboarded american prisoners were put to death by the american military for committing 'unconscionable acts of torture' - but that was before the current regime called the geneva conventions 'quaint' and waterboarding was made all kool and the gang |

Given how he described himself (a 59-year-old chain smoker) I don't think he expected to last long. But I suspect that's the point. As soon as you need to breath, you start to drown.
There used to be a British (so-called) "reality" show where contestants competed to see who had what it takes to be in the SAS. I recall some episodes testing the contestants with stress positions, sleep deprivation and interrogation, but nothing that touched on water-boarding.
Do you have military experience faceless? Including withstanding torture? Remind me to never get on your bad side. |

haha no, I was just kidding - I'm not that old...
I've thrown abuse at soldiers for being trained muppets and had abuse thrown at me by them for being a fucking hippy - but that's as close as I've been. |

I believe that's how it put it in this article, so I paraphrased. 40 per day amounts to two packs -- a pretty heavy habit. I'm probably not far behind you at 12-15. (Until I kick myself into quitting, that is.)

I hear it's good but wouldn't try it for fear of my heart exploding. |

That's just what they *want* you to believe...
I'm surprised how little water it took. I expected them to pour a big pail over his face, but it didn't seem like any water even made it past the towel into the bucket. |
