Aja, little Luke is so cute. You haven't posted his pic in a while. I can't believe how he's growing up!

OK.... I think the knob on the right is the temperature settings for the oven. You could always try buying an oven thermometer (you can get them really cheap), put it in your oven then try testing the temperatures that way --- then you can write the number on the side beside the knob. (I had to do this in my first apartment because when I cleaned the stove, cleaned the numbers right off the dial Laughing).

As for the fan, it sounds as if this is a convection oven and the fan will just help everything cook more evenly and generally quicker. -- great for baking. Not all ovens are convection. If you are going to test the temperature of the oven, I would do it without the fan on.

thanks for everyones help Smile

i went with fish in the end - easier, and i'm glad i did - that oven doesn't make any sense! Confused

i heard back from one of the people i emailed who had the same problem - he's spoken to the manufactuer, and they just told him to buy a new front for it! so i'm going to think of some kind of blag to get the info out of them ... something like i'm cooking dinner for loads of orphans or wounded soldiers or something sherlock

Doesn't the dial on the left do settings for top grill, full grill, oven, and fan assisted oven?
That's what my old one had. thumbs

here's the dial from the oven here - all the way to 280c! It's just a normal cooker.
