Falsification provides grounds for termination of an employment contract. In some fields, e.g. medical qualifications, this is very serious and has led to imprisonment.
Whilst below is from an Australian site, I believe the same applies in the UK

Wow, that's very interesting - I never knew it was illegal. But you're right, I certainly wouldn't, for example, want to put my life in the hands of a health care professional who had overstated and/or fabricated their qualifications.
It was remarkable how Sir Alan & Company brushed Lee's CV blunder aside by saying that "we've all done it."  |
