Nothing to do with tectonic plates then, Shaz? You fucking cunt. Stick to opening and closing your legs, because when you attempt the same principle with your mouth you fuck up. |

I heard what she said on the news the other day. What an idiot. I hate people who say natural disasters are karma and shit like that. I tell you, those giant dragonflies must have been some evil bastards when they were flying around and the earth was covered by volcanoes and earthquakes. |

She's a piece of work that Sharon Stone. I say, if there's any such thing as Karma, she'll be getting some payback from making some pretty bad movies! |

Hollywood is becoming a very bad ambassador for the US. Recent examples include :
The Russians trying to ban the new Indiana Jones Movie.
The new Iron Man movie seems to insult Arabs, Pakistanis and Indians.
Granted there has always been stereotypes (especially anti-Muslim ones), but it seems a number of recent movies seem to carry the neo-con agenda (including the films which try to gloss over the anomalies in the 911 official story). |

That's always been the case with Hollywood, though. Cowboys and Indians movies always had the Indians as the bad guys, and all disaster movies like Independence Day and that one with the big comet headed for Earth have "The Americans" saving the world, as though no other country could do anything except them. And wasn't their recent Pearl Harbour movie a complete bastardisation of historical fact?
It's symptomatic of the fact a lot of Americans are brought up to truly believe that they're the greatest nation on Earth and as such there's no need to learn much about any other countries. That sort of thing becomes an apparently self-fulfilling prophecy, too, when even their movie houses seem to confirm it for them. |

If anyone goes to the movies to find out about history then they're mental.
But to be fair, if there was a movie industry in Britain that was big enough I reckon we'd get stacks of the pro-British bullshit that goes on in Dr Who. It's patriotism that's the problem. Also, if people tried not being total idiots like Sharon Stone, that would help! |

That's pretty much exactly my point. I'm talking about the people who don't care about history, would never dream of picking up a history book, and only pick up on things from their hours glued to the TV and then go out and vote, etc., based on their ignorance.
Granted; every single country in the world has people like that, but I think the problem with uneducated patriotism, or ignorant patriotism, is a lot more significant in the USA simply because of the vast standing and influence of North America in the world.
The only way that a hyper-power can get away with going around the world causing havok is if it's got the back-up and support of a large percentage of its populace who either through their ignorance or indifference give it their permission to do so. |

Well, you can mock my opinion if you like, but considering the size of America, you're no more an expert on it than I am, unless of course you've visited every single state? What's that, you haven't?
I'm not basing my opinion on personal experience, but I am basing it on the personal experience of very respected intellectuals and American political commentators who I consider know a lot more about the subject than either of us.
I seem to remember about a year ago you made some pretty alarming comments about The Islamic Republic of Iran, which I assume you've visited many times, otherwise how could you possibly know. |

We don't have a national curriculum, so I could only speak for the State of New Mexico.
I taught sixth grade history for many years and that part was world history. It was very thorough, looked at world religions, the development of civilization, different cultures, etc. I did my best to get it all taught in the school year but sadly there is never enough time to get it all the way I wanted to. Overall, the history curriculum in New Mexico was quite good.
I do know most states, in the fourth grade, focus on their particular state history. |

Quote: | CAIRO, Egypt - Sharon Stone believes the Sept. 11 attacks should not have been used as a pretext for the United States to launch wars in Afghanistan and Iraq, according to her comments published Monday in a pan-Arab newspaper.
In her interview with Al Hayat, the actress also bemoaned what she called Americans’ decision to ignore the deaths of so many Iraqis.
“I feel at great pain when the spotlight is on the death of 4,000 American soldiers, while 600,000 Iraqi deaths are ignored,” she said. “War is not a movie, it is a tragedy of dead bodies, victims, the disabled, orphans, widows and the displaced.”
Stone spoke in English and her comments were translated and published in Arabic. An English transcript of the interview was not available.
Al Hayat published excerpts of the interview from December, when Stone attended the fourth Dubai International Film Festival in the United Arab Emirates. The paper’s sister publication, Leha, is to publish the entire interview Wednesday.
Stone came to the region seeking answers for herself because, she said, the U.S. media has failed to provide Americans with the truth.
“I feel sad when I realize how much truth is being changed or obscured in the American media,” she said.
The star of “Basic Instinct” and other movies criticized both Arab countries and Israel for failing to resolve their decades-long conflict. She said she also opposes any military conflict with Iran.
In Dubai, Stone also campaigned to raise over $1 million for AIDS research and awareness about the disease which remains taboo in the Arab world. |
