I thought this was a great article and Galloway would do well to take note of it. This guy claims to have sent a week's wages to help in the Telegraph case, yet feels he will be simply dismissed if he disagrees with Galloway on his show. It's something I can understand without a doubt - treating every caller who doesn't agree with you with the same disdain isn't the way to go.

I had some Rangers fan posting on a youtube video yesterday - in most situations people reading would have thought he had a valid point, but it was clear to me that his comments were driven purely by anti-Irish bigotry - so he was dumped along with all his comments. The point being that there's a big difference between someone like him and someone who disagrees on a normal level.

Yeah, that was a good read. "Class" is something that enters mainstream discourse far more frequently in Britain than in Australia (where I live), so it often confuses me as to what exactly is being implied when a person’s class is invoked.

I guess Galloway's view is that “class” is primarily the driving force that informs ones socio-political attitudes. Galloway is wealthy sure, but he campaigns on behalf of those that aren't - which makes him (in his view) of the working class. If he were to give up that struggle and spend the rest of his days at the races - he'd immediately ascend a few floors in the class tower (at least in the eyes of those he'd left behind).

And then there’s the issue of the top floor, where the "upper" or "ruling" class hob-nob. This is surely the exclusive preserve of those with hereditary claim to land, title and power. I feel a bit sorry for Britain in still clinging to the remnants of this anachronistic order - it's surely because of this that class remains such an issue there. I guess anyone who fights this prevailing order could be viewed as doing so as part of a "working class" struggle

Galloway's eloquence and intelligence seem to betray the stereotype of the inarticulate "working class lout" rather than re-enforce it. He also refuses to celebrate this working class stereotype (or sympathise with what could be argued are working-class misfortunes) by painstakingly highlighting the numerous miss-spellings in the numerous bigoted and hateful texts he receives every show.

But overall – I agree with what the writer of this article is saying (and probably disagree with more than 5% of what GG says). I think the reality is simple – we all like to hear GG bashing inarticulate idiots and his furious tirades are largely what make us tune in week after week to a station we’d normally avoid. But for the same reason as the writer above – I would never bother calling him.
