That's just terrible. I hope he's put somewhere with really insane people who inflict a lot of pain and suffering on him. |

One of the related stories states that he's 20 and that this incident happened about a year ago. He punched the baby in the face and put her in a safe and a fridge. How're you gonna rehab this guy? My vote is Forget. |

It also said this guy has a history of FAKING mental illness to get out of trouble.
After living and working years with a shrink I know that they don't (unless they're dodgy) lie about that. It's too serious. This guy would have under gone evals to assess his mental state. It sounds like he has shown in the past that he's lying about it.
I think if someone truly has mental problems we should work on treatment. But we also need to work on protecting society from them if they are that dangerous. |

My point is that anyone that does this sort of stuff is very sick. I'm no mental expert but I'd reckon that to say that he pretends to be mentally ill is bull, he must be very mentally ill else he wouldn't do it. |

To me, this goes again along the lines of a mentally ill person that probably needs to be medicated. Unfortunately, one cannot force a mentally ill person to take medication in most cases, so the chances of them getting out and doing something crazy again is likely to happen. I don't know if that stipulation varies from state to state, but in NY, the let the floodgates open and closed all the mental hospitals down. It's a fine edged sword regarding patient's rights. Nuts or not, I think this guy needs to be put away. |

You know, it's a common misconception that someone has to be "mentally ill" to do this. But that isn't the case. They may have issues (we all do after all) but when some one is pleading "mental illness" to get out of a charge it means they don't know the difference between right and wrong.
I am sure this man has mental issues, the fact is, he is more than aware of right and wrong but still chooses to do wrong. If he were schizophrenic or some other type of mental illness where his perception of reality is skewed then he could plead mental illness.
People who rape have mental issues (usually related to control issues). But they still know it's wrong to rape. So they cannot say "I have mental issues" to get out of the charges. |

In our local paper, this story was directly underneath "Inventor of Egg McMuffin Dies". You have to wonder if anyone actually proofreads the paper before they print it!!! A little on the tacky side! |

I've seen some whoppers in my time with this as well. More than likely it did go through the proof reading part but who ever did the page layout wasn't thinking. At least they didn't swap the headlines. |
