I think that Phil has finally met his match. Not sure what to make of the softer side of either of these two, but it is interesting to watch...in a car wreck sorta way. I like that they have Shirley opening up and I like that they have Phil being a friend. I think I will be really grossed out if it goes further, but for right now it is nice to see them being, well, so ..nice, especially since neither one does it very often and they are not sure of how to go about it. Sort of the blind leading the blind... |

I am in complete agreement. In one scene Shirley is telling Heather's mother to die and in the next scene she's warming up to Phil. Pick a personality and live with it people. I can see it now, one second Shirley and Phil aree hugging and the next they're giving each other head butts and drawing blood. The softer side of them makes me want to just puke. I'm so confused. And entertained at the same time. I bet they'll be boinking each other by Thursday night and stabbing each other by Friday night. Or Monday the latest. |

I don't know how Phil can be attracted to Shirley ever with her disgusting behavior and that she looks very close to being a man. At least her attitude is manly. Phil is dead ugly, but I know Shirley isn't picky, so that would be understandable. Ewww, the two of them together is cringeworthy. Get me the sick bucket. |

I like seeing a new side to both of them, but I don't really want to see more, like you said pirty, pass the sick bucket! I do like the way that Shirley stands up to Heather's mother. Is the actress that plays Heathers mom the same woman that played Daisy on Keeping Up Appearances? It looks like her, but she is so mean and scowly it is hard to tell. If it is, she is a great actress -- she is quite the c word!! |

Yes, that is "our Daisy" from 'Keeping Up Appearances'. She always does a great job.
As for Phil and Shirley, seeing the other sides of them is great. However, I don't find Shirley any softer at all and I honestly still can't connect with her. I have no sympathy for her at all. But, seeing her not yelling and wrinkling her hand bag face is a nice change. With Phil, we've seen the softer side before so I 'm not as shocked.
But to put those two together? I just don't see it. They don't work. I would hate to see it. And in all honesty, after everything Ben went through with Phil's last lady love, you don't think he would be wanting his dad with another woman for a long time! |

I sort of thought that too, with Ben, but he is the one that started pushing them together. Ben is a strange little guy... |

It is a bit of a bizarre match seems to me. Softer side of Phil & Shirley....wonder where this storyline will take us (them). So glad you identified Heather's mother. I kept thinking that I knew her and had convinced myself that she played Jane on that old folks home comedy that I can't remember the name of. ( I need a new memory)

I think I agree with most of you in that I can't imagine seeing too much more of these two together. but I do like the fact that Shirley is opening up a bit more and we're seeing the more human side of her. I've always thought that if she had someone who treated her right, she might just soften up a bit..... I know there have been a couple of nice guys along the way for her, but we just need to get her to accept them.
As for Heather's mom, granted I'm not caught up on all episodes yet, but from what I recall from her last time on the show, she's a real piece of work and if heather can't stand up for herself, I'm glad Shirley tells the mom off!!! |

Yes Face...that's it. Thanks for the memory jog. I really enjoyed the show as well. Been many years since they showed them over here.

Phil would have to drink in order to be able to shag that piece of old leather. |

There is not enough alcohol in the world to shag either one of them! They seem the perfect fit though. They say you tell the truth when you are drunk, so maybe Phew really likes her. They are cut from the same cloth...kinda sleazy, dark side, rough around the edges, but a heart underneath. I don't like Phew drunk though. Drunks are boring and he is no exception. |

Shirley has got good legs, but so has a nice table... and you do lay the table. I think I'm onto something here! |
