The U.S. kills 1,000,000 Iraqis and the world is in uproar over a puppy? That's f*cked up in all respects.

absolutely Major - it just shows how pathetic the majority are. I've mentioned it before, but the charity for Guide Dogs for The Blind receives more donations than the main charity for the blind - showing again that people will give a few quid to fluffy dog before they'll give it to a human being.

I'd kill a puppy every day on live tv if it helped to show the brutality that is going on every day in our names.

It is indeed major. And yet, I think the senseless killing of any animal or human is horrible. I think that people just get sensitized to the war with so much media coverage etc. --- then all of a sudden you see this cute puppy admidst all the war stuff and it's such a dramatic contrast that people stop and say "that shouldn't be." I think that's why there's so much outrage over the incident. Personally, I just wish the whole damn war was over so we don't have any kind of fatalities. Enough is enough.

They are clamping down on the videos on the web. It was only last night that a video came out with the puppy clip in it :

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4j_R2ogOX58

Quote:
American Troops going Insane

This video is graphic. Sometimes the truth is horrible. The video contains disturbing scenes of American troops sadistically taunting Iraqi children, randomly throwing grenades at sheep herders and the infamous puppy toss with David Motari. Juxtaposed against a hollow and hypocritical Presidential address this is mandatory watching for every American citizen. George Bush is a war criminal and unfortunately so are some of his troops. This is mandatory viewing.

Now it says :

"This video has been removed due to terms of use violation."

The discretion in the applicability of the terms of use are so broad, it amounts to ability to censor.

From the YouTube terms of service:

"""B. YouTube reserves the right to decide whether Content or a User Submission is appropriate and complies with these Terms of Service for violations other than copyright infringement, such as, but not limited to, pornography, obscene or defamatory material, or excessive length. YouTube may remove such User Submissions and/or terminate a User's access for uploading such material in violation of these Terms of Service at any time, without prior notice and at its sole discretion."""

OR

We can pull your video any time we want and for no good reason at all....So There!

You can still find a page that links all the videos of American troops going crazy in Iraq.

It is US black ops who use dogs : http://www.whatreallyhappened.com/whokilledthedog.html

Not the whistleblower who released the video.

I don't have a problem with YouTube deleting videos. They don't owe the public anything. It's a privately owned site so they can run it how they like, just like Face can allow or disallow anything he wants on this site and doesn't owe anyone even the slightest explanation.

If you want the video on the net, host it yourself.

Kate,

When something is as big as YouTube, it becomes the mainstream media .. and by it censoring items it makes it harder for people to upload and others to find clips.

By YouTube blocking it, it is badly damaging the distribution, i.e. YouTube's customers.

Just like we criticise the BBC, FOX etc, we can and should criticize actions by YouTube

p.s. Then I don't expect you to complain if they ever deleted your clips from YouTube. They did that to evil.... how far is other stuff from that.

Surely the best idea is to encourage users away from youtube to sites like this - that way the user can get the videos from alternative sources (and in higher quality) and yotube would become purely a storage facility... that's my global domination plan for the day.

This isn't the case at all. Something can't just "become" the mainstream media. By that rationale, are you saying that if your site, SpideredNews, by some miracle, became enormously popular and was getting a similar number of hits to YouTube that you'd have to start allowing opposing views to be aired, and never delete any comments? Of course you wouldn't, you'd run it how you see fit.

The BBC and The Fox Network do not rely on members of the public explaining the news, and then filter out all the opposing views, they run the whole show themselves so they control the bias.

YouTube is just a site (and a free one, let's not lose site of that, so it can't possibly have "customers" as you stated) where anyone with a computer can upload any video they have and it will be hosted for free. You're not paying for a service.

I get this sort of criticism myself on a certain site that I run: Because I'm offering something for free people start to expect content, and complain if an update is missed. I have to keep pointing out that I OWN the site and they are paying me NOTHING, so they have no right to complain if the site goes down, if I delete something, if I'm late with a video, or whatever.

You are paying for the BBC, you're not paying for YouTube.

You will never hear or read me complain if YouTube delete my account. It's a private enterprise and I've never given them a penny.
