I do my sprouts the way my great-Oma did them. Boiled then cut in half and fried up in butter so they get a nice crisp on the outside.

I hate brussel sprouts but if I had to eat them, this would be the way.

I love sprouts myself but this is probably my favorite way. There's a nice crispiness to them and the flavor is just great.

ohhhh nooooooo... I hate to argue over sprouts (seems like I am a sproutaholic or such).

I just hope that's after they are cooked.

It sounds wrong to say it, but it realy is the truth, notching or 'crossing' the top or the bottom (some do both) kills just about any goodness in a brussle sprout. (proven scientific fact BTW)
Some might even say it will make the flavor drain out the sprout too...

Essentialy, when you cook a sprout, you cook it whole, all the goodness, the Vitamins, minerals etc re,ain within.
When you cut the base or the top, the water (or stock) that you are cooking them in dilutes all the goodness... kinda' leaks out of them so to speak.

By all means cut the top after cooking them to let the butter etc get into them as they sit in the bowl...

Sprouts? We had sprouts just straight up steamed with nothing on them. SO delicious on their own!

Yesterday we did ham, au gratin potatoes, corn and sprouts with apple pie for dessert. Today I did roast lamb with that cabernet sauce from Outback and mashed potatoes, asparagus (again just straight up steamed and naked!) left over corn for the kids, herbed goat cheese (yuuuuummmm!) and no dessert.

New years day I think we decided on raclette.

Happy season to all ... Look out Kwanza. Here we come!
