totally agree on that - and i don't think its anything to do with the country, but the imperialist mindset of the elite few who take us into these wars

a lot lot more is needed. i don't know so much about america, but here its a disgrace - london has got loads of people living on the streets and very little help for them Sad

this reminds me of something cuba's vice president carlos lage said at the un back in '96 "each day in the world 200 million children sleep in the streets. not one of them is cuban."

I believe Cuba is doing it's best to make sure it is still true, but if not, then America's cruel, inhuman and illegal embargo against Cuba, and American's military aggression against Cuba (directly or via funding of anti-Castro terrorist groups) must have some bearings on the matter.

unfortunately i don't think its true anymore - they lack the building materials to keep up, and like mandy says with the embargo - they're finding it hard Sad but do you think it was true for anywhere else in '96?

thats why i'm so against the american sanctions against cuba, and this is one of the intentions of it. heres an internal american government document;

The majority of Cubans support Castro ... the only foreseeable means of alienating internal support is through disenchantment and disaffection based on economic dissatisfaction and hardship. ... every possible means should be undertaken promptly to weaken the economic life of Cuba ... a line of action that makes the greatest inroads in denying money and supplies to Cuba, to decrease monetary and real wages, to bring about hunger, desperation and the overthrow of the government.

imagine if some country was applying those sort of polices with those aims to britain or america, there would be outrage - the media would be non stop. that un vote the other week, the british and american media pretty much ignored it - even our so called 'liberal' media

back on to homelessness, another interesting statistic, although i'm waiting to hear the source on it;

Afro Americans account for 49% of the Homeless

i'm not sure in this country, most of the ones i see around london are white

Thanks Luke .. it is actually a war-crime to do what the Americans are doing. Collective punishment, targeting civilians. The Geneva conventions are discarded by Bush & Co, like they did with the US constitution (that goddam piece of paper), and with legalised aggressive interrogation (aka torture by everyone else)

I'm gonna move this thread into the Galloway section as it's more political more than factual.

result - we've got marcella contributing to the galloway forum wink

on cuban homelessness, i've just been trying to look for details - theres conflicting reports, some are still claiming none, some are saying its a tiny problem - but all are saying since bush came to power and the sanctions have been toughened, things have got harder

housing is actually in the cuban constitution! i didn't know that, i like that Smile

Yep, that's a very important distinction. I adore Americans, but I despise their current government.
