Halloween is my absolutely favorite holiday but with 4 children I both love and dread it every year. My kids are so NOT off the rack costumers. When you come from a large family and have many friends with kids you tend to inherit things like costumes. I have Batman and Superman costumes but do they want to be THAT? NO!

2 years ago David was a Stunt Driver. Pretty easy costume ... Black t-shirt with STUNT DRIVER in white letters a la the stunt show at MGM studios, helmet, trike. He's a gear head so it didn't surprise me when he wanted to wear the t-shirt CONSTANTLY afterwards. I think last year was a repeat of the Thomas costume - whew!

SO last night David asked me when his R2D2 costume was gonna get here. I explained to him that I have to figure out how to MAKE one! He didn't say I want to be a robot or anything easy like that ... He couldn't want to be C3P0! he MUST be the cylindrical one that rolls ... and Davy wants to roll!

SUGGESTIONS from the peanut gallery are most welcome! I got 8 days to figure it out!

Cardboard tubing works wonders! Painting it is easy and putting straps to hold it up is as well. Cutting holes into the side for arms and he can wear a white long sleeved turtleneck. As for the top, a garbage lid does well also.

This picture may help as well. I know he's not that little but it might give some ideas for you if you can't use the others.

Foam would be good forsure. If he wants to roll does he have skates?

how about one of those plastic paper bins? you could either cut holes in it for his head and arms, or split it in two and attach the two sides with elastic or something

heres one that was made earlier

maybe instead of a plastic bin you could use cardboard to make the tube bit?

i'm almost tempted to make myself one now Laughing Embarassed

Useless bit of Halloween information: The popular American confection, candy corn is over 100 years old.
