Too funny! Had a good laugh with this, thanks for the post. Hopefully no one really believes this kind of stuff! Shit, that author doesn't even know what the acronym "TSA" stands for (it's Transportation Security Administration!)!!

Kezza, which part don't you believe ?
Regarding :
"Last year, I wrote here that if Uncle Sam gets its way, we'd all be on no-fly lists, unless the government gives us permission to leave - or re-enter - the United States."
has ALREADY been passed into law. |

Erm, none of it. It is not a piece of "News", as one often finds in "News Mash". What you posted is an editorial. And every one of us is entitled to have an opinion. The US government, as do other governments, have people on no-fly lists. Nothing new there.
So, instead of attacking me, just realise that our views are different. And since you posted it in "News Mash", I really did take it to be a joke, especially the part comparing the US govt to the former Soviet Union. That's not going to happen. But that's my opinion.
Agree to disagree, OK? Let's all play nice and be respectful of each other's views. |

I've never credited Jeff Rense with anything other than a rabid hatred of 'Zionist Jews', upon whom he piles all the evils of the world. He is a cracked record, and in my opinion does nothing but harm to the search for understanding of the world.
The thing about this article is that the law deals with international travellers - as a UK citizen I'd have to go through all sorts of checks if I wanted to go there, so what's the difference really?
though Kezza, this section isn't just about news nonsense - the idea is for anything, serious or not. |

My husband isn't a US citizen and he flies frequently for his work, all over. He has never needed approval and still doesn't. Even on a flight last week.
There are no fly lists. He's not on it. So he has to do nothing. Same thing with the rest of us. |

Yes he does. And nothing about it has come up. He just shows his green card. And I have a friend here from Canada who lives here for work and travels all over the world (he just got back from Taiwan) he doesn't have to get clearance like this. I even asked him about it after I read the article. He hasn't the foggiest. |

Yea, I'm with Kezza and Face - the "article" really shows itself for what it's worth when it calls the Transportation Security Administration the Transportation Safety Administration.
"Yea! Down with the United Stakes! I'm clever... and stuff!"
Gimme a break. |

It seems like there's going to be quite a few snarl-ups at the airport check-ins on February the 19th next year then...
Bring on the red-tape. I'm sure some company somewhere will make millions from this - 'Get Pre-Approved and Avoid Waiting In Line! - only $49.' |

But none of the stuff is happening yet. I know so many people who aren't US citizens that fly into the States and they are not getting these hang ups or needing approval. So it doesn't make sense. And these people have flown since after August 07. |

The law for approvals for international flights was published a few months ago. It is all automated. The airlines would seek approval pre-flight, and the TSA then issue the approval {unless they decide you are someone who shouldn't be allowed to fly}.
The big change in the law from Feb 08 is the presumption of Guilt. That means you are banned from flying until AFTER the TSA approve you to fly. Done so subtly, you don't even realise it is happening -- even AFTER reading articles about it.
There was a BIG thread about it on Couchtripper a few months ago (covering the international leg of flights), including quoting from the TSA web site.
Now the above article, by Mark Nestman, is about the extension to domestic flights.
If people are prepared to dismiss such articles out of hand, without checking other references, then that's how Bush manages to get his way, and the USA becomes the USSA

I fear the US now has more control and more information that the former Soviet Union ever had. With the ability (not just the desire) to tap most communications. The US has all the hallmarks of a fascist state. I will find a few links about that. |

I wish .. but Hilary Clinton won't even sign on renewing the constitution ("American Freedom Pledge"). Two cheeks of the same backside, all representing the interests of the Military Industrial Complex (MIC)
