http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/americas/6263616.stm

Well people, I nearly choked on my cornflakes and rice milk this morning, as I heard that Geroge Bush has commuted Lewis Libby's 30 month prison sentence as he believes it to be "excessive." Libby will now face probation and a possible fine.

Now, we can argue whether we think a two and a half year jail sentence is excessive for standing up and lying in court, but one thing is for sure. When he was Governor of Texas, Mr Bush didn't think there was anything "excessive" about sending seventeen year old children with learning difficulties to the electric chair.

The man is a total, utter bastard.

Why make it partisan? It's simple corruption.

re what pirtybird is saying, hillary clinton has come out with;

Quote:
"Ms Clinton, a frontrunner in the Democratic race for the presidency, said she was incensed by the move.

"What we saw today was elevating cronyism over the rule of law. And what we saw today was further evidence that this administration has no regard whatsoever for what needs to be held sacred," she told the BBC. "

maybe shes forgotten what her husband did ... they're all cunts in my book

Actually, there is a BIG difference. I believe an outgoing President has a discretion ON LEAVING to pardon existing felons. It is a one-off "hit" on departure.

What Bush has done is giving himself the power to pardon anyone at ANY TIME. This is DICTATORSHIP .. putting yourself ABOVE the law.

Bush couldn't even do the "expected" of allowing his friend to server a few months in Jail until he is pardoned on Bush's departure. Total contempt for the nation which expects criminals to serve at least SOME time in jail.

Actually, it does matter about that, too. Right and wrong has nothing to do with Right and Left in my book.

No one is suggesting that Bill Clinton wasn't himself corrupt - afterall, he was impeached - but you can't defend the corruption of one man by bringing up the corruption of another. That's circuitous.

Actually NO .. Scooter Libby was FAR WORSE than all the "490 twats that Clinton released" COMBINED.

Reason is Scooter Libby's crime was related to punishing & threatening anyone who could undermine the "Iraq has WMD" story.

So Scooter Libby has his hands bloodied by the MILLION+ death which his criminal colleagues have/will cause from the crime which Libby Scooter tried to cover-up (and got caught).

Also, Libby's crime is lying to shield his superiors (Cheney & Bush) from criminal action ... so quite in character for the "protected" to protect the liar.

Laughing

yeah what was all that about, it was before i got interested in politics

just googled and found this, seems we're talking about less twats than before

Quote:
On the very last day of his presidency, Bill Clinton issued pardons for 140 people, including his brother Roger Clinton and former business partner Susan McDougal, who had been jailed for refusing to give evidence against the Clintons in the Whitewater real estate scandal.

Even more controversial was the pardon for financier Marc Rich, who faced more than 50 charges of tax evasion and illegal oil trading - and for whom Libby, coincidentally, had worked as a lawyer.

When it was revealed that Mr Rich's ex-wife had made large donations to Mr Clinton's presidential library fund, the outcry was such that a congressional inquiry into Mr Clinton's final pardons was set up.

Mr Clinton later said the gifts had nothing to do with his clemency but admitted it had been "terrible politics".

President George H W Bush, the current president's father, also issued controversial pardons to Reagan administration officials charged for their role in the Iran-Contra affair.

Looks like Bush not only prevented Libby going to jail, but might (= will) pardon Libby when he leaves office.

Comment from WRH :

"Remember when Bush was Governor of Texas? All those executions, the "express-lane" death penelty, the way Bush mocked convicted murderer Karla Fay Tucker on TV?

And now we are supposed to believe that Dubya is starting to feel sorry for Scooter Libby?

No way.

No @#$%ing way.

Mr. Libby (actually Liebowitz) has the goods on Bush and Cheney. Mr. Libby knows that the REASON Valerie Plame was outed was as part of a larger program to keep Plame's Husband, Ambassador Joe Wilson, from calling further attention to the documents on which rested the claim that Iraq was purchasing uranium from Niger; documents which were obvious and clumsy forgeries.

So Scooter Libby obviously sent a message to Bush to get him off the hook, or Libby would start blabbing. No doubt Scooter has his dead man's switch well and truly in place, because as Manuel Noriega can tell you, one does not blackmail the Bush family with impunity.

But humanitarianism has nothing to so with Scooter's get-out-of-jail-free card. Scooter has the goods on the President.

As a final note, in all the mainstream media's coverage, no, the hard sell of Scooter's pardon, not one major network has mentioned those forged Niger documents and the Presidents now-discredited claim regarding Iraq's uranium purchases.

Not one."
