Policeman makes a hash of cannabis grab
Friday, May 11, 2007
A cop who took cannabis from crime suspects then baked it in brownies made a hash of it when he called police to tell them he thought he was dying. On a 5-minute tape of the call, obtained by the Detroit Free Press, Sanchez told an emergency dispatcher he thought he and his wife were overdosing on marijuana. "I think we're dying," he said. "We made brownies and I think we're dead, I really do."
Sanchez later told police investigators that his wife took the marijuana out of his police vehicle while he was sleeping. In a subsequent interview, he admitted he got the marijuana out of the car himself and put it in the brownie mix, police said.
It was decided on Wednesday that he and his wife will not face criminal charges. The police department's decision not to pursue a case against former policeman Edward Sanchez left a bad taste in the mouth of at least one city official, who vowed to investigate. "If you're a cop and you're arresting people and you're confiscating the marijuana and keeping it yourself, that's bad. That's real bad," said City Councilman Doug Thomas.
Sanchez, who resigned last year from the department in Detroit, declined to comment. The department's investigation began with an emergency call from Sanchez's home on April 21, 2006.

This doesn't sound so far from the reaction some people have to pot. I don't know enough about it to know whether it depends on the person or the potence of the weed, but paranoia can be a result. |

you're right, some weed can make some people paranoid - theres lots of different types, but i think the main problem here is they've taken way to much they should have just a had a bit and waited an hour. it would be like drinking lots of absynth really quickly, its to much - and like you say some people just don't get on with it and can become paranoid, and if you've taken that much before you realise - unlucky
theres lots of different types, crosses of different plants from around the world, but you bascially get two types - cannabis indica and cannabis sativa, theres also a third - cannabis ruderalis - which is like a miniature little bonsai type thing sativa strong plants can have more of an uppy creative cerebral high, wheres as more indica dominant plant might have more of a body hit, sleepy even, they grow in different parts of the world and have different flowering times, the sativa taking a lot longer and growing taller
there can be a world of difference though between two plants of the same type grown using different methods or under different conditions - like growing fruit or veg
its quite an incredible plant with an amazing history going back thousands of years with so many uses, including medicinal, its one of the few plants that'll grow pretty much anywhere on the planet, the chinese were growing it 8000 years ago and using it for textiles 6000 years ago - the chinese four nearly five thousand years agi in the worlds first medical book referred to cannabis as the superior herb the word canvas comes from the latin for cannabis as all the early canvas was made from the fibre ( hemp ) even the first bible was made with hemp, muhammed allowed cannabis but banned alchohol, the hindus called it sacred grass and it was one of the five sacred plants of india, even buddha is said to have survived on a diet of the seeds you can get the seeds and cooking oil in a lot of shops now - its good for you because its high in omega3
it was nearly a huge industry in america, with the government even creating a film called hemp for victory, before dupont and a number of big petrol chemical companys lobbied against it and got it banned ( they had alternative products that the expected hemp revolution would have have been competition for ) at the time congress banned it they didn't even realise cannabis was hemp funny though because one earlier us president said that all americans should grow it
sorry i'm rambling its a favorite subject of mine, we'll get it legalised one day |

Luke, that wasn't rambling at all. It's quite a nice history of the herb.
Fortunately, marijuana was de-criminalized (which is not the same as legalized) here in Canada. Having tried it, I understand the argument for it. Some think people with MS take it to get high, as a mental escape. But for people who suffer chronic pain, its ability to relieve that pain is probably unique.
I've seen a documentary called Grass. Funny and educational. |

thats cool its been de-driminalised, i think it should be everywhere at least for those who want to use it for medicinal purposes
a friends mum has ms, every mother days he goes over with a bag of weed, they get stoned and go horse riding together - the only time of year she can manage it, but she doesn't like breaking the law - so she just has the mothers day treat
i haven't seen grass i'll have to look it out, thanks there are a few others that are good if you're interested

jack herer - the emperer of hemp
the jack herer one looks a lot at the life of jack herer, a leading activist and author, but also covers lots of info on the plant and movement
jack herer wrote: | "If all fossil fuels and their derivatives, as well as trees for paper and construction were banned in order to save the planet, reverse the Greenhouse Effect and stop deforestation; Then there is only one known annually renewable natural resource that is capable of providing the overall majority of the world's paper and textiles; meet all of the world's transportation, industrial and home energy needs, while simultaneously reducing pollution, rebuilding the soil, and cleaning the atmosphere all at the same time...And that substance is - the same one that did it all before - Cannabis Hemp...Marijuana!!" |

I love that while he was afraid he was dying he actually asked the operator what the score of the Redwings game was ... classic ...
I wouldn't know the first thing about it as I have never partaken in any form of the substance but I hear tell via my hubby that the brownies can really mess you up ... |
