Interesting information. As the article indicates the bee population is under great stress - though there are a number of potential causes being suggested including such bizarre suggestions as cell phone antenna interference and radiation associted with power lines.

There truth is likely to be a combination of a number of things mentioned in the article and some that are not. Certainly the way farming has changed is causing problems and the fact that colonies are loaded into poorly ventilated trucks and shipped to a new location causes stress, and I understand because of the way farming Is done these days, the colonies find there typically a very limited food source, ie: the crop that needs to be pollinated. Bees like variety and subsequently the single source puts further stress on the colony.

Add to this sensitivity to pesticides, and other creatures that infiltrate and disrupt the hive and it's no wonder the population is collapsing.

Organic farms, with their variety of produce, eliminbation of pesticides and settled environment certainly make for happy bees!

My neighbor two houses down is a beekeeper and keeps the bees in his backyard. So we have a lot of them in the neighborhood.

The honey he makes is wonderful and the bees have been so great for our area. Our flowers bloom like mad!
