I've just tried to install this game (Tiger Woods 07) and found a weird error. It says that I don't have DirectX 9.0c installed, though when I run dxdiag from the "run" prompt it says it is installed.
Anyway, I did a bit of searching and found that this is a problem with XP systems that have SP2 installed. The way round it is a bit tricky from what I've read, so before I do it I'm wondering if anyone else has had the problem?
The method I've seen is to remove DirectX completely, then reinstall V8.1 from the XP original disc, then install the latest 9.0c update. I'm loathe to do this straight off as I'm sure it's gonna cause grief somewhere... |

when did you install 9.0c? And did you set a system restore point before you did? |

I installed it ages ago and everything else works fine, it's the complete removal I'm not too keen on if I can avoid it. |

it's this specific method to get it sorted that's the problem. |

what I'm on about is, maybe with the old install there were bugs that the newer install has addressed. |

right yeah, I did try that update already, but no joy. This seems to be a bug that M$ have ignored. I really just don't want to uninstall it and risk the hassle - but would a system restore keep directx if I uninstall it? I'm not sure it would. |

This will fix the problem. XP ships with DirectX 8.1 as ppart of the OS. DirectX 9 has a habit of not installing correctly if you have Anti-Virus Runnig, or if you are doing the install with the online installer on a dial up connection.
To remove DirectX Do the following:
Start > Run > regedit
Browse to and remove the following key
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\DirectX
Don't delete any of the other folders or your PC wont work.
Restart your computer and if you did above, DirectX 9 will be gone, and XP will have reinstalled 8.1 in the background on restart.
Confirm by doing the following:
Start > Run > dxdiag
This will open your directx diagnostic tool, containing a wealth of info. On the first tab, down the bottom it will tell your your directx version. Should now say DirectX 8.1

well I tried that and now it says I've not got any directx at all, meaning I can't use the april update file as it's just an addon. So it looks like I will need to install version 8 after all. Now to find that... |
