Gore Vidal # 1 in my book but seldom heard from these days. Some other ppl of possible interest:
Tariq Ali: Author and activist.
Scott ritter: author, former Marine and UNSCOM Senior inspector. (doing the rounds with Hersh promoting his book "Target Iran" of late)
Not Academic or Journo but good listen.
Ray McGovern. Retired CIA analyst and CIA Division chief as well as daily briefer to several administrations.

I'd like to through Edward Said into the mix, if you haven't heard of him (which I doubt) please read up briefly, I've just been reading his book on Orientalism and the Palestine Question, its brilliant, a whole new perspective on literary theory and Imperialism centred on the epitomisation of the Palestine conflict |

I would have liked to add him too .. but sadly he passed away from cancer a year or two ago.
I was lucky to see him in a lecture a few years ago. |

Oh, i did know that he had passed away but I didn't know that he was ill or anything, I've only started reading on him recently. I don't know if the list has to be only people who are alive...? |

You are right .. I was slightly distracted by comment "imagine a school with these as your teachers! " .. I suppose a teacher could be in "spirit" .. if we read their writings. |

I remember a caller once saying to GG that he is to politics as Bill Hicks was to comedy, and I agree. Bill Hicks used his humour to get over very profound & hard hitting view points that GG would approve of, but probably not the language used to convey them. Recalling his comments on the 1st Gulf War, and the first George Bush, it is truly a great loss that his is not around today. |
