Tears For Iraq Hero

Tears trickle down the face of President George Bush as he attends the award ceremony of a young Marine who died saving the life of colleagues. Cpl Jason Dunham threw himself onto a grenade hurled by insurgents in Iraq. His body absorbed most of the blast, saving the lives of fellow soldiers. The act of the courage earned him the Medal of Honour - only the second time the award has been given to a soldier serving in Iraq.
The soldier's heroism moved the president to tears as he presented the award to the young man's parents at a sombre ceremony in the White House. "On a dusty road in western Iraq, Cpl Dunham gave his own life so that the men under his command might live," the President said. "This morning it's my privilege to recognise Cpl Dunham's devotion to the Corps and country."

What a guy. He sends people off to die on the basis of a pack of lies, then has the temerity to pretend that he actually cares! What did he expect to happen if not that thousands of people would be blown to shreds or become disabled for life? If I put my hand in the fire I'm going to get burned - and I wouldn't be crying about it when it happened.
He's such a manipulative scumbag it beggars belief. He is personally responsible for ALL deaths currently occurring in Iraq, and he cries over one act of heroism. His level of cynicism is almost beyond desciption. |

I'm not saying it is. All I am saying is that if he is crying he has the right to do it. One thing I know from being in mental health for years is that you can never truly see inside a persons mind. As much as we like to think we can, we can't. Profilers will tell you that.
This photo doesn't make me soften towards him but I won't deny him his basic rights as a human being to shed tears, for whatever reason. For all I know he may be crying because he knows that he's cocked up the war and looks a prat to the world, his people and his party. He maybe crying for a publicity stunt. But he is still able to do it. |

That's fair enough to have that opinion but I don't agree. And if he does resign we will sadly be left with Cheney in charge and I don't want that to happen at all. |

| Isn't the point of Congress that they stop the president when they think his actions are against the nation's interest? If they're not just weak-willed jobsworths then they should be standing up and demanding a better situation. |

He should be crying as he's the blood of over 3000+ Americans on his hands.
I'm sure the tears are real, but he's probably thinking of how much money he lost on Nazdek the day before. |

Yes, but you have to remember the Congress before was all for this war. So they weren't going to stop him. The recent trend in voting and with the Dems in charge, things will start to change. But it's not going to be instant. It's government and the one thing you learn about working for government is you hurry up and wait. |

Unless there's a war to be started... how long after 9/11 was the invasion of Afghanistan? 2 months? |

I agree with you there. But once again, you have to look at the congress at the time and the circumstances. This is sadly going to take time. I wish it wouldn't but it will. At least the American people are making sure their voices are being heard and that we are tired of this and want it to stop. I just know that the dems and many of Bush's own party are not happy with his recent ideas on the war. I have no feel for this congress yet so I (and everyone else) will have to wait and see what happens.
Edit: And if you don't think the hurry up and wait game wasn't being played it was. But behind the scenes. From the very start Bush had been waiting for any excuse to be able and go into the middle east. There was waiting but we didn't get to see it. After 9/11 one of the first thing Bush wanted was a connection between the attack and Sadam. |
