I just hope that the content won't be blocked to ppl outside the UK as the BBC stuff is...
Paying for it or freebies.. the beeb block 90% of their shiz even when running proxies...
As for burning to dvd...
Many nice apps out there available to capture any web content (movie wise) & then convert/encode to your choice... some even just record it straight to xvid (our prefered) format...
Then just burn the xvid (.avi) on DVD as a data disk.. pop it in ya' xvid capable dvd player & ya' all good to go.
(We watch a lot of the shows on the big screen downstairs... the xvid player I have upconverts to hi-def... so if the rip/capture is fairly decent to start with we have better than broardcast results). |

I'm sure they'll be protecting content to an extent, but it just needs an enterprising person to take that stream and forward it on to the newish DIVx streaming that's now available and it would probably work well. One problem is, with the time difference globally, would there be a point when downloads are available when the viewer wants? |

@ Faceless...
As for the global aspect...
Again, if they are aiming at blocking outside the UK as Chn4 tries & BBC does well...
Then the global thing kinda' falls apart... time wise that is.
We have "On Demand" here on the cable system... a bit like the 'any show anytime' that they are trying to throw together...
It's great to play catch up on shows you missed (or movies) or watch something you fancy as if it was on DVD with pause, rewind etc...
But the main subscribers to cable here (& the fiber optical system that offers the same on demand) realy don't use it to it's fullest.
So to try & boost the use of it (& it's all free BTW unless you order a pay-per-view movie), the companies add extra content like trailers, kareoke & such...
Over november & Xmas here one station showed a majority of the bond movies & another all the star wars movies...
But the adverts are not nice... specialy here in the usa... about 10 min.s of movie then 5 of ads etc... the on demand versions not only allowed you the ones they didn't show (bond wise), but no adverts to spoil them...
I think the percentage (after chatting with their techies in October) was close to 3% of their customer base using it to its fullest, 12% occasional usage.
I could do away with my HD DVR's with this service, but for the "ohhh, better record that" moments that we all get from time to time...
That & having to deal with all the fricken menu's of the on demand service...
If it's not restricted to just the UK... I welcome the service with open arms tho' m8...
Being able to watch quality TV again without having to download it... that would be a joy. |
