An Air Canada jet sat on the runway at (Toronto) Pearson airport on the weekend while staff ordered a 6-year-old child off the plane for disruptive behaviour.
"To the best of my knowledge, we have never faced a case like this," said John Reber, spokesman for Air Canada's head office in Montreal.
The incident happened Sunday morning at Pearson, Sun Media learned yesterday.
Sixty-two travellers had boarded an Airbus 320 owned by the airline scheduled to depart for Cancun, Mexico, at 8:30 a.m.
The child, who was travelling alone and who had been escorted onboard without a problem by Air Canada staff, decided to be a killjoy.
The plane had begun to move and passengers had just been told to fasten their safety belts when the child -- whose gender and nationality cannot be revealed, according to company policy -- decided he didn't want to.
Cabin crew members tried to make him understand, but he became uncontrollable.
The decision was made to throw him out of the airplane.
"Safety instructions come from Transport Canada and every passenger is bound to respect them. Otherwise, we can force them to leave the plane," said Reber.
He said that airline staff took charge of the child who was taken back to his family, who were still in the airport waiting for takeoff.
The incident obviously delayed the plane's departure.
"We had to find his baggage and take them out of the baggage hold," said Reber.
Within half an hour the passengers finally took off for Mexico's beautiful beaches. |

A 6 year old shouldn't be travelling alone in the first place. It's not the childs fault really. I'm sure he/she was terrified |

It's down to the individual child really. Kids travel unattended all the time without issue. |

True enough but some children aren't okay with the idea or comfortable enough to do it. You'd think the parents would have known that before making the decision of letting them travel alone. |

I would feel icky about sending my kid on a plane unless they are fully used to it and it doesn't normally bother them. Secondly, if I did have a kid, it would be so well behaved it would get awards!! LOL!!LOL!! |
