EDL chief knuckle dragger guilty over street brawl
The leader of the English Defence League has been convicted of leading a street brawl with 100 football fans
25th July 2011

Stephen Lennon, 28, shouted "EDL till I die" and encouraged fellow Luton Town supporters when they clashed in the town with Newport County fans on August 24 last year.

At the time, Lennon was arrested by officers who told him he was being taken into custody for suspected actual bodily harm from an outstanding allegation - which was later discontinued. But he was charged with using threatening, abusive or insulting behaviour and accused of leading Luton's hooligans into a fight. He denied the count but was convicted after a trial at Luton and South Bedfordshire Magistrates' Court.

Lennon, of Luton, Beds, was at the front of a large group of fans and was seen provoking opposition fans by gesturing and swearing at them. A terrifying scene unfolded with masked fans fighting, launching bottles and other missiles including a car roof rack. Pc Robert Field described the scene as "incredibly intimidating" to members of the public and said it was "clearly going to get out of control". He said he recognised Lennon because of previous dealings with him and because he had tried to arrest him earlier that day over another matter.

District Judge Carolyn Mellanby told Lennon: "I am entirely satisfied you were at the front of this group of angry Luton supporters looking for trouble when you were confronted by the group of Newport supporters who were also angry and fired up looking for trouble." Lennon, who has previous convictions for assault, possession of cocaine and disorderly behaviour, shook his head upon hearing the verdict.

He must get at least a few months in jail for this.

Does anyone know why he's dicking about with two names?

Paxman was pish in that clip and let hm come across very well. He didn't control the interview at all.

Just goes to show that as with Nick Griffin on newsnight episode - don't give them a platform. They have got much better at public speaking in recent years and dress up the intolerance and hate in the clothes of "no one listens to us" and make it palatable.

John Lennon had it right in Imagine:

Imagine there's no countries
It isn't hard to do
Nothing to kill or die for
And no religion too
Imagine all the people
Living life in peace

All the hassle over who has the best imaginary dude up in the sky.

The sooner we venerate scientists, academics and the like and stop worshiping man-made religions and "celebrities" the better off the world would/will be.

The EDL isn't about religion - it's about foreigners. Simple as that. They don't distinguish between an Iraqi Christian, an Iraqi Jew, or an Iraqi Atheist. They just see a 'paki'.

I don't doubt there is some truth in what you're saying but I think it has moved away from simple "paki" bashing and lot more onto, consciously or not, we are christians and this is a christian country and they are muslims and muslims are bad.

Fed by biased and irrational reporting by the media it's easy for the young & jobless to lay blame at the outsiders door and now backed up by terrorism by a few extremists they can feel vinidcated by calling their group "defence".

My point being no religions (well at least getting shot of the three monotheistic, abrahamic ones) would solve an AWFUL LOT of the worlds ills.

If we had no religion we'd still have ignorant, violent arseholes. In fact, this particular brand wouldn't be much different because they're nationalist - almost the antithesis of religious.

German rightwing rock fans tricked in anti-extremist T-shirt stunt
Nationalist message on T-shirt changes to call for tolerance when washed
Helen Pidd,
guardian.co.uk,
10th August 2011

Rightwing rock fans at a nationalist music festival in eastern Germany were taken by surprise when souvenir T-shirts they were given were emblazoned with a secret anti-extremist message. The slogan on the shirts first read "hardcore rebels" along with a skull and nationalist flags. But once the T-shirts were washed, the tagline turned into a message from a group offering to help far-right extremists break away from the neo-Nazi scene.

"If your T-shirt can do it, you can do it too – we'll help you get away from right-wing extremism," reads the slogan on the shirts after their first washing.

The shirts were handed to 250 people at a "Rock for Germany" festival in Gera by organisers after they had been donated anonymously. They were provided by Exit, a group which helps people disassociate themselves from the far-right. Exit claimed to have pulled off the stunt after contacting festival organisers in the eastern state of Thuringia using a false name, saying they wanted to support the scene while retaining their anonymity. The T-shirts were in lieu of a donation, they claimed.

The organisers accepted and dished out the freebies at the festival on Saturday. Twenty-four hours later a warning message was sent from the organisers via Facebook and SMS warning festival-goers that the T-shirts were not all they seemed. "Exit has wasted several thousand [euros] of tax payers' money," said the missive.

But Bernd Wagner, founder of Exit, insisted that no state funds had been used in the initiative. "It was all paid for by private money – not one cent came from taxpayers," he said in a phone interview. He said a supporter had approached Exit with the idea, saying he had developed a special fabric ink for concealing hidden messages. "It had never been done before. It was completely new. We had to experiment with it a lot to make sure it worked, to ensure the top layer would not wash away in rain, for example," he said.

Gordon Richter, a member of the far-right NPD party who organised the festival, said the stunt was a waste of money. But Wagner said the stunt went better than they ever dared hope. "We wanted to raise awareness about our programme, especially among the young and less committed," he said. "There were so many points along the way where our plan could have failed, but it all went perfectly."

EDL Tower Hamlets march banned by home secretary
Theresa May consents to request from Met to ban all marches in Tower Hamlets and four neighbouring boroughs for 30 days
26th August 2011
guardian.co.uk

The English Defence League's plan to march through the capital next month has been blocked by the home secretary. Theresa May banned all marches in Tower Hamlets, east London, and four neighbouring boroughs in the capital for a 30-day period, following a request from Scotland Yard's acting commissioner, Tim Godwin. The move comes amid fears of violence and disorder if the march was allowed to go ahead.

May said: "Having carefully considered the legal tests in the Public Order Act and balanced rights to protest against the need to ensure local communities and property are protected, I have given my consent to a ban on all marches in Tower Hamlets and four neighbouring boroughs for a 30-day period. I know that the Metropolitan police are committed to using their powers to ensure communities and properties are protected. We encourage all local people and community leaders to work with the police to ensure community relations are not undermined by public disorder."

Nick Lowles, director of the anti-extremist campaign group Searchlight, said: "This decision is a victory for common sense. The EDL clearly intended to use the proposed march to bring violence and disorder to the streets of Tower Hamlets. Their plan has been foiled." He added: "We congratulate Theresa May and the Metropolitan police on their decision, as well as those ordinary Londoners who have joined with Searchlight and local community groups in opposing this divisive demonstration. Legitimate protest is healthy. Violence and intimidation are not."

Good news - it was never going to be anything but trouble, and that's what the EDL scum want. Here are some comments from EDL members...

i don't know if it is good news, this ban doesn't just cover the edl - it covers any march; as this article shows;

The ban will also affect London's most important protest against the arms trade called “Disarm DSEi,” which has been organized by anti-war activists to urge the government to shut down the world's largest arms fair on September 13.

London is to host the world's biggest arms fair, Defense & Security Equipment International (DSEi), on 13-16 September at the ExCeL centre in East London's Docklands.

The fair holds every two years in London, this year more than 1200 arms companies will exhibit their deadly products to 25,000 buyers from across the world, including repressive and human rights abusing regimes.

“Europe Against Austerity” protest on October 1 would also be involved in the Home Office's blanket ban plan. '

the government have shown in the past they don't really care about banning edl marches, but under the cover of banning the edl, they've banned everything!

EDL WILL GATHER IN EUSTON ROAD PUBS BEFORE TOWER HAMLETS

Details for Tower Hamlets

Posted by HalifaxEDL on UKFD web forum 01/09/11

Police Set Conditions for the Tower Hamlets Demonstration

Perhaps we should just be happy that we’re allowed to demonstrate at all!

First, the Home Secretary prevented us from marching, and now we find that the EDL demonstration in Tower Hamlets this Saturday will face further complications.

Until very recently, we had agreed with the police that the muster point before the demonstration would be Hainault Underground Station. We would then have taken the tube to Liverpool Street Station, and from there we would have walked to Tower Hamlets.

What no one thought to consider was the possibility that the RMT (The National Union of Rail, Maritime and Transport Workers) might get wind of our plans and threaten to close stations by calling on their members to go on strike.

We’re not sure that having to transport people to a demonstration is really a legitimate reason for industrial action, but the threat has been enough for the police to cave in to the pressure and abandon the previous plan. As a result, we’ve been left to make our own arrangements as far as the muster point is concerned.

Location details are as follows.

This applies to everyone using any method of transport.

Please muster at the following public houses

The Euston Flyer, 83-87 Euston Road, London, NW1 2RA

ONeills 73-77, Euston Rd, London, NW1 2QS

At 2pm we will make our way to the demo point so if you are not at one of the above you won’t be going.

Please do make sure you arrive in plenty of time, as we do not know what restrictions may be placed on travel shortly before the demonstration.

Please can we also ask that you bring your own refreshments, as although there are a few pubs in the area, it’s going to be difficult enough keeping everyone together.

Once we have gathered at the muster point we will then be escorted by police, in groups of 200-300, to Tower Hamlets and the site of the static demonstration.

However, we have today received a warning from the police that until we reach the demonstration site, we will not be allowed to raise our flags or banners, and that anyone doing so will be removed from the area.

It should go without saying that this is absolutely ridiculous, and we’re not certain that the police will actually enforce this rule on the day. As far as we understand it, the decision was made a senior officer in the Met, and is not well-supported by the police, who believe that it could turn the demonstration into a logistical nightmare.

But, until you hear otherwise from either a police officer or an EDL steward, please abide by these instructions. We are certainly not happy about this clear violation of our right to peaceful protest, but we would rather everyone reached the demonstration site than saw people ejected early on.

We understand that the police have received intelligence that there are small number of people in the Muslim community in Tower Hamlets who are already trying to incite violence, but surely the police effort should be focused on deterring would-be criminals rather than on restricting our right to protest?

Although the UAF have also been prevented from holding a march, they are thought to be holding a counter-demonstration nearby. From previous demonstrations we expect them to try and aggravate and provoke EDL supporters. Please can we remind everyone that any trouble would detract from the important reasons why we will be in Tower Hamlets.

There have been numerous newspaper articles recently that have been highly critical of the UAF – highlighting that their arrest figures are often far higher than ours, and rubbishing their claims that they are fighting ‘fascism’. This one deserves a special mention. If people are ever going to stop believing some of the baseless accusations spread by the UAF, then this support is crucial. Let’s not do anything to jeopardise it.

This demonstration was always going to come with conditions, but we are disappointed that senior figures in the Met seem to be more interested in playing politics than they are ensuring that the demonstration is a well-organised, peaceful affair.

We are also disappointed that the RMT is apparently so opposed to protests against the spread of radical Islam that it would instruct its members to strike in order to sabotage our plans. Despite this, we are looking forward to a successful demonstration.

But we wish to make it very clear now: if we are prevented from flying flags and displaying banners then we will return to Tower Hamlets on 22nd October.
