Kielty clocked doing over 100mph
Northern Ireland comic Patrick Kielty has been clocked doing over 100mph on a notorious Scottish road, it has emerged. Mr Kielty, 36, from Dundrum in County Down, has been charged with driving his car at 101mph. He was stopped by police on the A75 close to Newton Stewart, Dumfries and Galloway, on 27 December last year. The Fame Academy host is expected to make a plea at Stranraer Sheriff Court later this month.
In 2004 he was honoured by Queen's University in Belfast for services to the performing arts. The County Down funnyman co-opened the Comedy Club at the Empire in Belfast while studying at Queen's. He had his first major television break on BBC Northern Ireland hosting his own live show and soon progressed to national television, both with his own chatshow, Patrick Kielty Almost Live, and as co-presenter of the Fame Academy series.
Last October, some members of a Dublin audience walked out of one of his shows over his jokes about Kate and Gerry McCann and their missing daughter Madeline. Mr Kielty, who apologised to anyone who took offence, said his act focussed on the way the media had handled the high-profile case.

As far as I can remember, that road is the first place in Europe to use the new type of speed cameras that take a picture at the start of a section then at the end, working out how long you took, and therefore your speed. It really needed it too, because a lot of people have died on that road because there's no central reservation. |
