The nails themselves are actually dead by the time you can see them.... they're basically the same as hair. As for why they're put there in the first place, I can't say...... but they're annoying as hell when they become ingrown |

I personally love them for back scratching, untying stuff, washing my hair better, helping me open things up, etc. I would hate to be without nails. However, I do wish I didn't have to cut them as often. |
