German hairdresser finds secret bank vault plans
06/ 12/ 2007
BERLIN, December 6 (RIA Novosti) - A German hairdresser found secret plans for the Berlin branch of Bundesbank in a garbage bin, the German Bild newspaper said on Thursday. The 26-year-old man was just about to throw out his rubbish when he noticed a plastic bag containing detailed drawings of the bank's security system, including floor thickness, movement detectors, doors, passageways and barred gates.
"I wanted to throw away my rubbish and I noticed the plastic bag with the building plans," the man told Bild.
Germany's central bank, Bundesbank, located in West Berlin's Charlottenburg district, opened just four weeks ago following renovation work which cost a total of $229 million. "In the underground treasury room, several hundred million euros are stored beneath several meters of steel and concrete," the newspaper said. Bundesbank spokesman Albrecht Sommer confirmed the find but made no further comment, adding all the drawings have been returned to the bank.

This is quite odd as a few years back my younger brother found plans for the newly built visitor's centre at Greenock prison in much the same circumstances. The plans he found showed all the camera points and security systems and I thought this was quite a story so I contacted the Daily Record and two reporters came round.
They got the story, then asked if they could take the plan, so we gave them one and kept a copy - but the story never appeared. I wonder why? (sarcasm!) |

Wow - it's unbelievable that they can just throw the plans away...for a number of reasons. I thought they had to legally keep a copy of any construction plans in case of any problems or faults, never mind for security purposes.
Maybe the plans were waiting for someone prearranged to come and pick them up and someone else got there first...!! Just a thought! |
