Chappelle Showered with Money at Gig
Elusive comedian Dave Chappelle was showered with $100 bills at a Los Angeles comedy club, by fans desperate for him to return to TV. Chappelle has been rarely seen since he walked away from a $50-million contract with network Comedy Central last year and turned his back on showbiz.
The 33-year-old has begun making guest appearances at L.A.'s Laugh Factory, and stretched a 20 minute set to over two hours on Monday when fans begged him to carry on and showered him with money. He told the crowd, "I'm like Bigfoot now. People can't believe they're seeing me. They see me and just flip out," reports the New York Post.
Chappelle -- who has vowed to give the money to charity -- also offered support to "Seinfeld" star Michael Richards, who caused outrage last year after a racist outburst on the same stage. He said, "I learned I'm only 20 percent black and 80 percent comedian because black people were like, 'That bastard!' -- but comics, we were like, 'The dude's having a bad set. Hang in there, Kramer!'"
A US Comedian has broken his own gag-telling endurance record. Dave Chappelle, 34, who broke the endurance record by taking to the stage for six hours and seven minutes in April, topped his record by telling jokes for six hours and 12 minutes.
“Dave was determined to keep his record because he recently heard that Dane Cook was planning on trying to break it,” the club’s owner, Jamie Masada, said last night. Masada said the previous record of three hours and 50 minutes was accomplished by Cook in early April. But until then the mark had stood at two hours and 41 minutes since Richard Pryor set it in 1980.

Stand-up record goes down the toilet

Dave Chappelle has failed to set a new record for stand-up endurance, because he left the stage to go to the toilet. The comic took the stage at Hollywood's Laugh Factory on Sunday in a bid to break the club record for the longest set, currently held by Dane Cook at seven hours, 34 minutes. However, Chappelle's attempt failed when he left the stage for a bathroom break after five hours, prompting owner Jamie Masada to disqualify him. Official word records usually allow brief comfort breaks, but this is an unofficial record set by the Laugh Factory itself.
Cook and Chappelle have hotly contested the record. Chapelle held the title for just one month – with a six-hour set – before Cook took it off him last year. The original record was set by Richard Pryor who spent a relatively modest two hours and 41 minutes on stage in 1980.
