'the inspiration for the original Coronation Street set was a street in Salford called Archie Street which was demolished in 1971. Despite there never being a church on Coronation Street and that there was a set built in the Granada TV studios, Archie Street was still used for filming in the very early years'

Wow! It really does look eerily similar! It's amazing what they do in these studios. When I watched my first "behind the scenes" in Albert Square, I was a bit naively disappointed when these homes, stores, and bars were just shells...lol! Thanks for the piccy. :-)

it is like the opening titles of corrie where they pan out from coronation street to show nearby Salford streets is totaly fake , that is a real view af a very small area of the city that still looks the way it did 40 years ago. the story above kind of reminds me of Liverpool demolishing the cavern club to make way for a car park , what were they thinking? There is a Coronation Street in Salford that is still standing but although simular is not reminisent of the TV one , it is featured in a 'Smiths ' video that shows Salford Boys club that stands on the corner of Coronation Street Morrisey and crew then ride Bysicles down the real Coronation Street , sorry cant remember the name of the single

That's an interesting find for fans of Corrie. Thanks, face.

I thought I might add the youtube video linked from that source you posted which shows the 1960 credits featuring Archie St. I wonder how many fans were puzzled by the Rovers being on the wrong end of the block.

End of an era for Salford and Weatherfield papers

SALFORDIANS walking past a row of shops in Seedley may be forgiven for thinking that the derelict building had been hit by a bomb, but they simply collapsed after years of neglect. Punters at an adjoining betting shop on Liverpool Street were stunned when there was a huge crash and the street was showered with debris. No one was hurt after the incident, which happened on Sunday, September 15, at around 1pm.

Amid the row of shops was the former Advertiser office, which was used up until 1994, when the paper moved to its current home in Church Street, Eccles. The office also moonlighted as the premises of the fictional Weatherfield Recorder in Coronation Street.
