I'm not Scottish, but from my point of view, he's doing a good job. A proper left wing alternative to Labour. As I'm on the Tyne, I don't like the idea of nuclear weapons being moved here, but if I was Scottish I'd be proud of the bloke. He seems like a gentleman, a man of principal, and at the very least, a talented politician regardless of your particular stance on independence. |

yeah i quite like alex salmond, he seems genuine and talks a lot of sense - the times the media give him much of a chance. as well as being against the trident replacement i think he's against a new generation of nuclear power stations in scotland, and he's against the iraq war - not sure on afghanistan though ...
didn't he make it free for those in scotland to go to university's as well recently? thats a good move
i don't know if he's as left wing as you think apart from that, granted all those are sweet - and compared to the alternatives he looks really left wing ... but on big business and privatization etc, i remember reading an article and he wasn't so great on those issues ... but i don't really know that much detail and my memorys not so wicked
sean connery is a supporter though! there was a good article by 007 just after the snp won the election ...
bond, james bond wrote: | The Scottish public first became aware of Salmond 20 years ago, when, as a young member of the British Parliament at Westminster, he interrupted the chancellor's budget -- the most televised day in British politics -- to protest the government's unfair, regressive tax policies. The House of Commons proceedings ground to a halt as the speaker ejected Salmond. He exited to the waiting cameras outside and the commentators asking who was this young guy with the nerve to interrupt the British chancellor of the exchequer.
In Scotland we saw the picture through a different lens -- we saw someone giving the country a voice and standing up for what he thought was right.

I met him at that Trident demo earlier in the year and found him to be genuine and friendly. There aren't many politicians who get past my 'bampot filter' but he's definitely one of them. He does have genuine concern for real matters and I reckon if he's given a good chance by the people (who generally seem to like him) I reckon he could remain in power for a good while. He's leagues ahead of the opposition. |
