It still brings a tear to my eye as I remember the deep deep pain of the moment, but 10 years ago today I stubbed my toe on the edge of a large speaker that I had in my flat. It was an unexpected shock of the highest order which would probably have brought many thousands of people out on to the streets, united in grief for my blackened toe-nail, if they hadn't been too busy shouting and crying about something else.

The public really are fickle bastards.

Turned the TV on this morning just to see (once again) the princes telling the world what a wonderful mother old Diana was - man did I get bored of that!! Have been listening to that for the last 10 years! I for sure don't care!

Ah, face -- had I known your painful story, I would have bought a bouquet of flowers and laid them on that large speaker to symbolise my sympathy for your battered toe.

Sorry about the toe. It must have been a deeply painful weekend. But 10 years later you seem to have gotten over it. By now surely people have gotten over whatever it was they were crying about.

Ash, I'm not sure what your point is - though of course, there should probably be a large stone statue of me and the toenail so that future generations can learn from it!
