BBC EastEnders mystery solved

London correspondent reports.

The biggest mystery surrounding the BBC soap EastEnders, has at last been solved. Astute viewers for a number of years now have wondered where the popular soap, which purports to be a reflection of everyday life in London’s East End, is actually set – because it has as much similarity to today’s East End as it has to Glasgow’s! Well the answer is Elstree Studios in Herts – well at least for the moment it is, as rumour has it that it may be filmed elsewhere in future!

The problem is, you see, that if EastEnders was true to life then two-thirds of its cast would be “ethnic-minority” and around half of them of the Muslim persuasion. Unfortunately, those who make EastEnders for the BBC have failed to grasp that their “vision” of the East End is about twenty-five years out of date and that it is, today, a highly colonised area of London in which native Britons are a declining minority. Indeed, if producers were to be faithful to their subject then an accurate version of EastEnders would not only have an “ethnic-minority” majority cast, but life would centre around the mosque – not the Queen Vic – which in any case would now be a curry house offering an interesting Bengali cuisine!

Dare we suggest to those who produce this soap that they pay a visit to the old East End to get a grip on the reality of the situation –or perhaps – rename the program to “Old EastEnders” – or something similar!

I've never agreed with anything the BNP have said before, but they're definitely onto at least a sniff of the truth in this case...

I think you can pretty much say the same for Corrie too, from what I understand.

I thought this was a post about a BNP storyline in Eastenders. They came close when Jim gave his opinions on the eastern European lady, eh?

I'm sure what's being said here is very true..... but I like EE because it's far more real than any American soap is. On a bad day, it's still more interesting. Laughing
