UK is drowning and the money should be spend on surface water handling / flood defences.

I can't see any possible use for these in the slightest. There is no empire to protect and no local threat that couldn't be dealt with from current airbases. |

I agree .. this is to "project" power, i.e. colonialism on the other side of the world (e.g. China/Taiwan dispute, Russia etc) .. but these guys have real WMDs which can be fired at Britain.
As for use against "Islamic" insurgents : They don't have anything which can be targeted by these warships, since they are non-state entities. One exception : Iran, but here the neo-con plan is to nuke them .. so what good are these aircraft carriers since they will just be in the way of the nuclear strike (or be contaminated by it and the DU in the whole Middle East region) |

Quick stats
£3.9bn to create or safeguard 10,000 jobs around the UK = £390,000 per job (or if spread over 7 years) £55,700 per job per year. Don't think that is "good value".
"Spending on the forces increase by £7.7bn over the next three years" : That's £7.7bn PER YEAR from 2010 onwards. What happened to the peace dividend ? Couldn't this money solve 3rd world-debt .. and thus drain the cesspit of inequality from which terrorism and resistance movement draw a lot of their recruits ? |

Let's see who's in the pocket of the MIC, or if not in their pockets, then too stupid to realise that jobs gained here means jobs lost (or towns flooded) elsewhere since the money has been squandered
