Ukrainian swim coach banned after fight with daughter

A 38-year-old Ukrainian swimming coach has had his World Swimming Championships accreditation revoked by world governing body FINA after being filmed in a physical altercation with his daughter.

The video footage showed a clearly distressed young woman grappling with her father in the marshalling area just before the start of last night's finals at Rod Laver Arena in Melbourne.

Victoria Police were called in to examine the vision and they identified the pair and called them in for questioning.

Inspector Rick Nugent said he had concerns for the woman's welfare.

"I think it's disappointing, it was distressing vision," he said.

While the young woman required no medical treatment, Melbourne 2007 chief executive Michael Scott said there was no excuse for her father's behaviour.

"This is unacceptable, it's a very, very serious matter," he said.

"FINA have acted right away by withdrawing the accreditation of the individual involved."

Mr Scott said the investigations were continuing.

"It is unacceptable, it's unacceptable in Australia," he said.

"It's unacceptable anywhere in the world, that sort of behaviour and again, FINA have withdrawn his accreditation.

"They're conducting their hearing, Victoria Police are conducting their investigation and we need to wait on the outcome of those two courses of action."

This shocked me seeing it on the news this morning. The father is an absolute prick! I can only imagine what else this poor girl must go through if she's not lived up to his standards.

Some of these parents of sports stars seem to go right off the edge in order to make sure their child wins. That case a couple of years back in France of the father who poisoned his kid's opponent before a tennis match for example.

Maybe they've been watching too many movies or playing violent video games.

These type of parents make my skin crawl. I always feel bad for these kids. Whether it's academics or sports they aren't happy unless there is perfection!

the crazy thing is she WON the qualifying race and she is 18 years old! I'd be looking for a new "coach" if I were her!

My young nephews are incredibly talented ice hockey players. My sister (their mum) told me of an incident where 2 fathers stormed into the locker room after a game (which my nephews' team had WON, mind you) because they were upset that their sons did not get enough "ice time." The angry fathers used profanity in front of 9- and 10-year-olds whilst degrading the coach (who, by the way, volunteers his time and is not paid).

After the incident, the Hockey League made the fathers apologise to the coach in front of the children's hockey team.

Some parents just can't accept that other kiddies are more talented than their own. And they feel that they have a "right" to complain because they are paying a good bit of dosh for their sons' hockey membership.

The fact that the aforementioned incident was caught on tape shows how widespread this abuse is......parents living out their dreams through their children is just plain WRONG!!!
