Hands Off Iraqi Oil Campaign is holding a meeting followers of the anti-war movement might be interested to come along and support.
11am-5pm, Saturday 24th March 2007
Union Chapel, Compton Ave, London N1 2XD
Tube: Highbury and Islington
www.HandsOffIraqiOil.org
Greg Muttitt from PLATFORM (author 'Crude Designs: The rip-off of Iraq's oil wealth') and Ewa Jasiewicz from Naftana (UK Support Committee for the General Union of Oil Employees in Iraq) Supported by: Corporate Watch, Iraq Occupation Focus, Jubilee Iraq, Naftana, Platform, Voices UK and War on Want.
For the Iraqi people war and occupation has led to hundreds of thousands of deaths, relentless insecurity and crippling poverty. But for foreign oil companies the desperate situation in Iraq is a chance to take control of Iraq's oil and make massive profits at the expense of its people. A new law that would transfer control of most of Iraq's oil production from the public sector to multinational oil companies through long-term contracts of up to 20 or 30 years, now looks set to be rubber-stamped by Iraq's Parliament in the next few months. Whilst the US and British governments, the IMF and the big multinational oil companies have all been active in shaping the new law - which will tie the hands of future Iraqi governments, depriving them of democratic control over the country's main natural resource OIL. Iraqi public and Iraqi civil society have been excluded from the process.
please note it is very easy to get to by Victoria line tube Highbury & Islington or several buses including 4,19,30,43,153,271,271,277

The war is an absolute atrocity and was perpetrated by liars, greedy businessmen who want to line each others pockets from revenue generated off selling Iraqi oil and filthy politicians with enough military power to take advantage of a country they knew couldn't fight back.
The war was started over lies the Bush administration tried to feed to the world with stories of WMD when they knew the information was bogus, then tried the angle that Saddam had something to do with the Sept 11th, but since most knew Saddam disliked Bin Laden, the chances were between slim and none he'd had a thing to do with it.
This war is for 2 reasons. Greed of Iraqi oil and a personal vendetta Bush Sr and Jr had against Saddam, and he tried to con countries into being his weapons to gain all he wanted. Unfortunately he caught himself a sucker in Blair, but actually Blair wasn't really a sucker because I'm sure his pockets, and the pockets of his business pals will have already been slicked down nicely with the smell of oil they're robbing from the country.
Bush and Blair should be before an international tribunal and tried for crimes against humanity and sent to prison for the rest of their lives. They've murdered 100's of thousands of innocent Iraqi's and for nothing other than being power freaks and greedy self serving bastards. |
