The Jil Sander paper bag that will cost you £185

Fashion critics will tell you that you could stick a designer label on the most mundane, everyday item and some silly fashion victim will pay big bucks for it. Well, sadly, they may be right. Following on from spring/summer 2011's sell-out acetate shopping bag, Jil Sander is now flogging a glorified brown paper lunch bag for a whopping £185.

The bag, which is made of '100 per cent coated paper' and features stitched seams, was carried by office-ready male models during the designer's autumn/winter 2012 menswear show in January, and has proved such a hit that it's been selling out all over the world. Independent London boutique LN-CC is the only UK stockist of the bag and has already sold out of their stock quota of the medium-sized version just three weeks after it first went on sale. Similarly, it's no longer available on Jil Sander's official ecommerce site, and the brand was reportedly forced to ask for stock back from outside retailers as they were running low. But, you can still pick up the smaller version; although it will still set you back £175.

There's a more luxurious leather version too, but you'll be left with little change from £500. Alternatively, you could fashion your own using a McDonald's takeaway bag and a biro.

Japanese Company Introduces Fart-Proof Undies

Have you ever been in a situation when you really needed to pass gas, but in the middle of a date or a meeting? Worried that the bad smell would ruin the moment? A Japanese company just may have solved this problem. Seiren recently introduced a clever solution: deodorant underwear, made to eliminate unwanted odors.

Nami Yoshida, spokesperson for Seiren, said, “It took us a few years to develop the first deodorant pants that are comfortable enough to wear in daily life, but efficient in quickly eliminating strong smells. At first we thought about selling them to those who require nursing care and to hospitals, but to our surprise, lots of ordinary people, [such as] businessmen who are in positions that require them to see people on a daily basis, bought them.”

Seiren even has other products for the same purpose — products ranging from socks that will stop your feet from smelling to shirts that will cover up those sweaty armpits. Now the challenge is to learn how to pass gas silently, or this clever new invention won’t be completely effective in dispelling embarrassment.
