I heard a fairly recent NPR interview with him and he was pretty proud of being a strong swimmer and being so comfortable in and around the water. He said he made a point of learning to swim because most Black people don't swim (his words not mine). He also said he would get blinding headaches from the head injuries he suffered from the beating. I wonder if he had some sort of seizure or something while he was swimming.
