George Galloway’s laptop stolen
May 26, 2012
presstv.ir

The incident took place on Monday, but it was revealed on Saturday after The Times reported that burglars have raided the home of left-wing Respect Party founder George Galloway and stole his parliamentary laptop. The incident is quite suspicious as the burglars had ignored more valuable items. Galloway’s spokesperson Ron McKay said British MP may have been targeted by the security services, saying “It was something that occurred to him. One hopes it would be rather more sophisticated.”

Known for hosting Press TV’s the Real Deal and Comment shows, Galloway has been an outspoken critic of the British government’s warmongering policies. After his victory in a parliamentary by-election in Bradford West in March, Galloway once again expressed his opposition to Britain’s “pointless” warmongering policies. “We’re spending hundreds of billions of pounds on setting fire to other people’s countries when we can’t keep our own pensioners warm in the winter time, when we’re almost bankrupt,” said Galloway in an interview with Sky News after his victory in March.

George Galloway: Was my home bugged?
MP’s fears after aide let police officer husband sleep at his house
19 October 2012
standard.co.uk

George Galloway today said he feared his home could have been bugged by the police officer who turned out to be “married” to his former secretary. The Respect MP hit back after suspended secretary Aisha Ali-Khan claimed that he must have known she was married to a detective inspector, Afiz Khan, in the Met’s counter-terrorism branch, SO15, with responsibility for Muslim communities.

Speaking to the Guardian, she said: “Not only have I lost my job and my credibility but I’ve been branded this tart sleeping with random police officers.” The paper said her Muslim marriage had been “hush hush”.

Mr Galloway said he would not have employed her if he had known of her relationship with the officer because it would have been “too compromising” to his work with Muslim activists. Asked if he believed the officer could have tampered with things at his home, he said: “That’s what I’m now asking myself and indeed I intend to ask the police. Did this man do anything while he was here, did he plant any listening devices or go though any of my papers? All of these things are now in my mind. You don’t have to be Einstein to work it out — an MP who has been involved in all of these causes like me and, hey presto, the head of the Muslim contact unit at SO15 is now inside my house without a warrant, free to roam around.”

Ms Ali-Khan says the MP must have hacked into her email account to see emails that “joked” about voter fraud. However, he said the emails were passed to him by his lawyer. She has made a formal complaint to the Met regarding the hacking claim.

Mr Galloway confirmed that he had allowed her to use his house while setting up his London office. But he rejected a claim that the officer only went into the house to use the loo. He added: “I didn’t say they slept together in the carnal sense. I said they slept together in this house, which they did — she herself told me that. She didn’t just tell me, she told my wife and my son-in-law.”

He insisted he had no idea of the couple’s relationship, adding: “The suggestion that anybody knew that she was married to a DI in SO15 is utterly fantastical.” Ms Ali-Khan claims her marriage was clearly recorded on papers seen by the MP. Mr Galloway says that her first husband had the same name. Scotland Yard confirmed that it had received a complaint about a computer.

George Galloway's former secretary arrested along with Met police officer
Aisha Ali-Khan was suspended by Galloway in October when he publicly accused her of being a Met police 'agent'

guardian.co.uk,
6 December 2012

George Galloway's former secretary has been arrested, along with a Metropolitan police officer, on suspicion of data protection offences. Afiz Khan, an officer with the Met's SO15 anti-terrorism branch, was arrested on Wednesday, along with Aisha Ali-Khan, who until recently worked as a PA for the Respect MP for Bradford West.

Ali-Khan, a mother-of-one from Bradford, was dramatically suspended by Galloway in October when he publicly accused her of being a Met police "agent" running an undercover operation from his constituency office in West Yorkshire. He demanded an investigation by the home secretary, Theresa May, into what he called a "dirty tricks" campaign orchestrated by Khan. The arrests are unrelated to these allegations, which are the subject of an ongoing investigation.

Both Khan and Ali-Khan have been bailed to return pending further inquiries to a date in early March 2013.

Police are also still trying to ascertain how Galloway got hold of private emails between Ali-Khan and Khan, which he then showed to journalists as "incontrovertible evidence" that there was a plot against him. Ali-Khan insists her Hotmail address was hacked and accuses Galloway of sanctioning the hacking: a charge Galloway has always denied.

Ali-Khan told the Guardian in October that Khan was her husband, producing the Muslim "nikah" marriage certificate to prove the two wed in 2009. She has always claimed the emails merely showed a husband counselling his wife in how to deal with bullying and misogyny in Respect's Bradford office.

He is suspected of misusing Met police databases and abusing his position as a police officer. He has been on "restricted duties" since Galloway made his original allegations in October. His status is being reconsidered in light of the arrest.

A Metropolitan police spokesman said Thursday: "A detective inspector from Specialist Operations was arrested this morning at his home address in Watford. He has been arrested on suspicion of misconduct in a public office and data protection offences.

"A woman has been arrested (not an Metropolitan police service employee) in connection with the DPS [Directorate of Professional Standards] investigation at her home address in Bradford. She has been arrested on suspicion of data protection offences.

"The arrests come as a result of an investigation by the DPS into a complaint from a member of the public, with regard to the actions of an officer based within specialist operations. At this time the arrests are not related to allegations made by the complainant but as a result of information that has been identified as part of the ongoing investigation.

"A further referral will be made to the IPCC [Independent Police Complaints Commission] in relation to the matter for which the arrests have been made."

Galloway said: "I understand inquiries are still ongoing so for that reason I cannot comment."

Ali-Khan faces a disciplinary hearing next Monday about the reasons for her suspension.

Police seize MP Galloway’s computer in hacking probe
Glen Owen
23 March 2013

Police have seized a Commons computer belonging to MP George Galloway as part of a probe into claims the maverick sanctioned the hacking of a former secretary’s private emails. Scotland Yard said it was examining the laptop after a complaint that the Respect MP had authorised a lawyer to spy on the Hotmail account of Aisha Ali-Khan, suspended by Mr Galloway last October.

The Bradford West MP, who denies he condoned hacking, put down a Commons motion last year accusing Ms Ali-Khan of a dirty-tricks campaign against him with her husband, Afiz Khan, a member of the Metropolitan Police anti-terror squad. He told MPs: ‘Afiz Khan sent emails to an individual in the Hon Member’s office who acted as his agent and co-ordinated this operation from his police email account and from at least two other fake email accounts.’

Mr Galloway’s claims led to the arrest of the couple on suspicion of data protection offences and, in Mr Khan’s case, of ‘abusing his position as a police officer’. But now Scotland Yard is also investigating how Mr Galloway first became aware of the emails. Ms Ali-Khan, 32, a mother of one, has denied any campaign against Mr Galloway, saying the emails the MP saw were part of a private correspondence in which her husband was counselling her over ‘bullying and misogyny’ in the MP’s Bradford office.

A Scotland Yard spokesman said: ‘We can confirm that we have received an allegation that a computer has been hacked into. We have been given a laptop by the alleged victim.’

Mr Galloway’s spokesman said: ‘The police are duty-bound to investigate any allegations of this sort. The laptop they have seized is a parliamentary computer. I am satisfied there has not been any illegal activity by anyone associated with Mr Galloway.’
