Judith Lucy's Spiritual Journey
Australian comedian Judith Lucy grew up so heavily Catholic that she wanted to become a nun. By the time she left school, she was a committed atheist. Now she's convinced there must be something in between those two extremes ... she just doesn't have a clue what it is. Join her on her quest to discover something to believe in, when Judith Lucy's Spiritual Journey starts Wednesday 27th July at 9.30pm on ABC1.
“I can tell you which of my friends has had herpes,” says Judith, “but I can’t tell you what any of them believes.” Over six episodes, the much-loved Australian funny lady will look for answers to the questions that take up all her time: Why are we here? What happens when we die? How do you find a reason to get out of bed in the morning? She’ll poke and prod religions and their alternatives and explore what’s on offer for the spiritually curious. Along the way, she’ll relive, in flashbacks, some of the hilarious, bizarre and profound spiritual moments - and hairstyles - that have shaped who she is today.
From outback odysseys to new-age healing rituals, rebel churches and silent meditation retreats, rebirthing in a bathtub to yoga on the Ganges, Judith will try just about anything - including a Tantric massage - to discover if there's something spiritual that floats her boat.
Not afraid to ask the tough questions, she talks to people including priests, nuns, psychics, Buddhists, New Age healers, Aboriginal elders and friends old and new (including comedians Frank Woodley and Greg Fleet, psychic John Edward, AFL footballer Brett Kirk and former Big Brother phenomenon Sara-Marie Fedele) to find out if anyone’s got a secret to explain this crazy rollercoaster called life - or the ongoing career of INXS.
From Alice Springs to India, the series features stunning locations, as well as comic flashbacks with appearances from Denise Scott, Colin Lane, Andrea Powell, Tony Martin and Myf Warhurst. From her baptism to her hard drinking days on the comedy circuit through meditation, yoga and out the other side, Judith bares her soul - and occasionally sheds her clothes - to share her spiritual journey.
