The Socialist Party has won its first Parliamentary seat in Ireland. Well done to Joe Higgins in West Dublin. And there's still a lot more seats to declare.

Looks like there are 5 TDs (Irish for MPs) under the general banner of the United Left Alliance.

this would only matter if there was a real functioning democracy, but as this article puts it 'the terms of the EU-IMF bailout must be applied whatever the will of Ireland's people or regardless of any change of government' and 'Irish voters are not a party in this process'

That might be somewhat true Luke, but it's good to see the Irish turning more to the left than the right.
