This is a petition to ask Facebook to reactivate the account of the REAL George Galloway, and thus preserve his list of more than 1,000 Facebook friends, and allow George Galloway to continue to be a part of Facebook.
The REAL George Galloway had been personally dealing with all the messages.
Background :
On 28th June 2007 Facebook deleted the REAL "GEORGE GALLOWAY" from Facebook, even though he had over 1,000 friends. Facebook simply wrote :
----------------------------------------------------
Hi,
Fake accounts are a violation of our Terms of Use.
Facebook requires users to provide their real names.
Impersonating anyone or anything is prohibited. We will
not be able to reactivate this account for any reason. This
decision is final.
Thanks for your understanding,
Rose
Customer Support Representative
Facebook
----------------------------------------------------
There was no apparent attempt to check the status of the account before deactivation. Nor any apparent right of appeal.
IS THIS FAIR OR PROPER ?
E-mails to the following addresses have not got any reply :
developers-help@facebook.com
appeals-comment@facebook.com
disabled@facebook.com
There is at least one person impersonating George Galloway on Facebook, but only one REAL George Galloway. The impersonator was reported twice, but Facebook deleted the REAL George Galloway, and kept the impersonator. |

Why do we need a petition? Surely all GG needs to do is write to Facebook's HQ and it will be sorted in a snap. And it's not like Facebook is a supercool site, anyway, it's just as crappy and pointless as MySpace. |

it sounds like a genuine error, and one that could be permanent if the account is actually deleted. |

The problem is they were/are ignoring GG's e-mails .. AND the e-mail from facebook said "We will not be able to reactivate this account for any reason. This decision is final. " |

Fuck it. MySpace and FaceBook, etc, are crap sites populated mostly by idiots. It's not like this will effect anything. People who really care about politics don't turn to FaceBook for their information. |

I'd never even looked on facebook before, but I signed up so I could and wasn't that impressed. The question on signup about politics was loaded - I didn't want to click on 'very liberal' for fear it might redirect me to the S+M section... |

In defense of MySpace, FaceBook, etc : They are effectively mailing lists with a web site front end. Obama had a MySpace page setup by a fan, until Obama decided to "take it over" (compensation was still being discussed a few months ago).
They are another way for Politicians to "reach out" (like having a radio show, or a TV show) |

Quote from "Bobbie Kay" :
George has written to them several times but no-one bothered even to reply (apart from the automated messages you always get). He even gave them his parliament number so they can phone him to check but of course they didn't!
Facebook never even asked for proof before they deleted George out of the blue.
But guess what - the fake George Galloway is still there (the one with the cigar-smoking picture and only 64 friends)!!!
That just shows how efficiently facebook is run...

I have just emailed them asking what the hell they are playing at.
I managed to get Tony Blair's profile restored that way, so you never know... (joke)
Seriously though, I did write, so I'll let you know what happens (if anything)... |

I meant write to them on paper. Send a letter to the head offices of this website, that way someone will actually take notice.
It's like if you need to get Yahoo! or Google to do something for you, you don't email their "help" sections, it's futile; you write to their HQ in the post. |

Those recent posts are the same as his twitter posts so I'm guessing they're pretty genuine. |
