There's been a battle on for the UK Christmas Number One - it's between the insipid little boy who won The X Factor and a campaign that has pushed the anti-War song by Rage Against The Machine 'Killing in The Name'.
It seems that Rage have probably won it, so here's hoping! I didn't know it was an anti-war song before, so that gives it a nice shine. |

I hope they do it, Tom Morello has said they will be donating some the money to charity, I don't know why Simon Cowell is bothered by it he is still going to sell as many records.
I think most if not all of RATM's songs have a political message, Michael Moore had directed a couple of their videos, here is Testify

I LOVE Rage, but I am surprised that that "killing..." is hitting any record/song charts now...it is a fairly old song....it's a good 15 years old or better... |

Yeah '92 for that first album, there is some Tom Morello side project stuff in streaming audio, The Nightwatchman and Street Sweeper Social Club, not as heavy as Rage though (need metal horns emoticon)

It suits an agenda, it's not that they like the song. Quite typical actually. :-) |

Who is this 'they' pirty? Do you mean normal people who are sick of the utterly soulless bullshit that people like Cowell churn out? |

people who don't do what they're told!
i'm not really a fan of either song, the rage track is better than the x factor one ( which i couldn't finish listening to it was so bad ), but the best thing to come out of all this is the donations to charity alongside the orders, and rage against the machine saying they'll also give money from the sales to charity. now thats proper christmas spirit, jesus would be proud
its also a bonus that the latest manufactured pop act didn't get what has become customary
unfortunately, the real winners are sony - who own the rights to both songs |

All this Rage talk has reminded me of seeing them three times in about three months back in 1993.
First time was in Amsterdam. I was there visiting my girlfriend who was at the uni there and they were in the local what to do magazine saying they were like the Chili Peppers. It was in a small place called the Melkweg.
They then played Manchester later that month and then a couple later. Boardwalk first and then the Ritz.
Haven't seen them since... one of those believing they could not top perfection.
Had the same with Guns 'n Roses. Saw them four times in 1987/8. Never wanted to go back... |
