EastEnders goes 3D

THE opening titles for EastEnders have been updated for the first time in ten years - but fans may struggle to notice. Show boss Diedrick Santer ordered a subtle change to the iconic London map sequence and from Monday, the BBC1 soap will start with a 3D edge like Google's maps. The titles were last changed in 1999 to include the Millennium Dome.

Diedrick said: "The style of the map image, as well as the content, was a little out of date. I didn't like how the EastEnders scrolled up. It looked odd."

Rockers pay tribute to EastEnders
(UKPA) – 21 hours ago

EastEnders has found itself some unlikely fans in the shape of US rock band Faith No More. The group, who have reunited after 11 years apart, surprised fans at Paris' Rock En Seine festival by launching into a rendition of the BBC One soap's theme tune.

Frontman Mike Patton then asked the baffled French crowd: "Does anyone here watch English soaps?" They have been playing the melody as part of their set during their tour, and also performed it at Reading Festival last week.

The band's bassist Billy Gould is known to be a fan of the soap, and has written about it on Twitter. In May he offered tickets to the band's Brixton gig to the first person who correctly guessed his favourite EastEnders character. He later posted that there had been "lots of Dot Cottons and Ian Beales" but said the correct answer was "the ginger God Max Branning".

EastEnders theme to be re-mixed

EastEnders producers are calling on DJs and musicians to offer remixed versions of the famous theme music to the BBC One soap for the new online spin-off. The chosen remix will be used for the title sequence of the internet-only show, which is expected to start at the beginning of next year.

DJ Annie Mac launched the competition on her Radio 1 show on Friday. "I'm really excited about running the EastEnders: E20 competition on the show," she said. "It's great to give the listeners the chance to have some fun with the hugely iconic theme tune. We've also asked some of our favourite producers to have a go at doing a version and I'm really looking forward to hearing all the results."

EastEnders producer Deborah Sathe said she is looking for a "fresh take" on the classic theme tune. "One that will become the fanfare for a show which celebrates London life, and what it's like to be young in the capital. All in the space of 30 seconds," she said.

The winner will also be invited to BBC Elstree for the day - where the show is recorded -to work with the show's music producer. The soap, created by a group of new young writers at a summer school, will also contain crossovers with the regular Albert Square cast.

The idea has been created to coincide with the run-up to the show's 25th anniversary. The drama's writers are also creating online blogs and other material to accompany the story.

The theme tune samples can be downloaded and remixes uploaded via the EastEnders website (click HERE )

I was thinking about it - I've not checked the samples, but if they're that bad I'll not bother. Ok, just checked - the piano medley one is missing a note! And what kind of format is aif? Shockeroonie.
